Back to the Future: 1969 Chicago Auto Show

By Rob

There are a few cool old pics from the Chicago Auto Show on Flickr. The car below is Chrysler’s Concept 70X with parallelogram doors. You can see a bunch more vintage show pics at the Chicago Auto Show site (unfortunately they are a lot smaller). And a few 60s booth babes after the jump.

Funny thing… the Chevy Astro? Need I say more?
-
okay I will anyway. The Production Astro couldn’t have turned out any more different. Talk about a radical transformation. Starts out as the nose cone of a Concorde SST, and ends up a quasi-full size van. I guess that happens when it’s something like 18 years between concept and production line, lol…

The first is a Chrysler concept, the second a Chevy Astro and the third is a 60’s tricked out Dodge Dart.

That Chrysler looks like a pimped out Lincoln Continental. I love those doors.

Notice that even way back then, auto makers were exhibiting awesome new types of door designs.
-
…then totally disregarding them in production models.

some things never change.
