To Donk or Not To Donk?

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

Check out this sweet eBay find–a 1974 Caprice with just 38,000 miles. So, does this car just need a lift and 26s? Or leave it alone? And who else besides me likes green?

Please Donk, It is a new era, there is no point of living in the past. Its dumb how people (HATE) on a persons taste and or choice on what they like.Me I got a 73 225 on 26s and i love the attention I get, negative or positive. Why keep it stock?????? really how many stock vehicles were produced the same as yours (thousands) so i say be different.

Anyone who raises a car just to clear big rims should have to turn in their keys forever, and be forced to ride in a stage coach. Since that is the look they are going for.

The propose of lower profile tires is to increase handling ability. When you raise a car you take that all away. And look stupid in the process. Lager rims and a LOWER stance is THE ONLY way to go with anything 2WD.

me personally i would keep it all stock upgrade the sounds, and put on 15″ spokes and vogues, new exhaust with hedders but u know to each his own u can do what u like to your car like terrance said its all bout what u do to your ride i just big up all the hard work whatever
it is ride high donk, lowrider, muscle, import or pure clean classic chevy luv.

Now I have a 77 Cutlass on 26′s. Its not all lifted to the sky and shit cuz I like mine low to the ground. I also have a 1970 Cutlass which I bought with 22′s on it but I took those off and put some 442 rally wheels with white letter tires on it because I believe a muscle car should showcase horsepower. Anyways what Im getting at is regardless what someone does to THEIR OWN I repeat THEIR own car is their own business. Nobody asks you to like it but respect the work and time that was put into it. Thats all. Keep your negative comments to yourself. I dont like everything but I respect everyones craft. With that being said I say the the car should be left original, since the mileage is so low it can easily go as a collectible and I think modifying will just bring down the value. Although I wouldnt mind seeing it on a nice set of 24′s with some candy paint.

Dude. No lift. Just 22′s or 4′s. Clean paint. Only replace the stereo if its still factory. Someone made a good point about 10 years from now. Just try to find a ’63 or ’64 Impala. they have all been filled with bullet holes thanks to the gangstas.

I say lift it to the sky show case the real money . Its so easy to replace all the other crap that messes up. The point of lifting is to show the cash. Put the 30 inch Asanti you know show case the money. Everybody else is just cheap. Candy paint money green Throw 100 dolla bills about 3 staks in the clear coat all over the car If you got it

Just keep it stock or make a nice lowrider glasshouse of it. Big rims on a car like this is so ugly!!!

If this was my car, I’d just add a set of rims,
and maybe some springs.
.
I would not mod it very much.
.
It is a survivor, and should be left stock, or close to it.

I dont care what you call it; Donk, box, bubble, whatever, dont do it! Leave it alone. A nice set of wheels dont require a lift kit. I am a long time lowrider fan, so I would have to slam it to the pavement!

Eric, my understanding is that a Donk is a “Mid-’70s Impala, Caprice and Monte Carlo or any mid-’70s ride with a sloping tail.”

http://www.cardomain.com/features/donks

BUT, I can ask Danny at King of the Street to clarify if you wish.

whats really funny is how time after time, you call all these cars donks. when there are certain terminology to em. also if your gonna put one in the blog don’t expect nothing but negative responses, with all the car lovers in here why the hate? when whoever thought about lifting a car on huge wheels they did it for themselves, not to make you angry.

LOL DONKING. you guy’s crack me up.

Austin

Please do not lift that car. Leave it as it is or maybe put it on bags, but no donking(not sure that is the correct terminology for that word, but you get the idea)

Huge long cars like that look sick when slammed… perhaps with some anthracite torque thrusts and a set of flowmasters. Screw donking or whatever.

Leave the height alone and put some really clean 22″ asanti’s with the center color matched. or the GIOVANNA DALAR’s it has the skirt on the rear wheels so tuckin some clean rims would look nice no lift, no lowrider thing thats old, just rims and cruise it.

Please, no Donk. Leave it or lower it. I think some nice 17″-18″ aluminum or chrome rims is all it really needs.

man, DONKS are SO played out….to me, nothing beats a lowered suspension (hydro’s or bags) and some classic 13″ spokes….

Forget DONKS…. Slam this monstous slab of “rotten spam”, which is what I concider the name of that color.

People are jacking these things up because the sky’s the limit. Even though you can only go so low with a car they still look way cooler.

For the sake of wheel bearings around the world, please leave it alone.

Keep It Stock, It’s Such A Well Preserved Survivor It Would Be A Waste To Lift It.

These are one of the few cars that I think I appreciate more as Donk. It just seems bland otherwise. I do love the green color though.
