VW Scirocco: We Don’t Get It

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

Actually, VW doesn’t get it. If they brought the new Scirocco to the US, it would sell like mad. Seriously. They are worried about cannibalizing GTI sales? Come on… One of my favorite car-related memories was driving my buddy’s then new ‘86 16V Scirocco from LA to SF through the middle of the night, averaging 90 mph the whole way. I’m not normally a big fan of FWD,  but that was a seriously fun car. Anyway, Jalopnik has some nice shots of its official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show. And VWVortex has a nice writeup on the car. Come on VW, do the right thing and bring it over.

It should be in green, as in its feature in Automotive magazine a while back. Also, VW is stupid for not marketing it in the states, but hey, it’s their loss.

I’m kind of disappointed by the new Scirocco. It’s a hatchback, not a fastback. Other than that I suppose it’s alright, but, it’s just not the same…

I think this is HOT. Not quite as hot as the concept, but they kept pretty real to the game with the production version.

I love the leather interior… Those seats are awesome. I’m pretty PO’d at VW right now for not bringing this over. Yes, it probably would cannibalize GTI sales, but so what?? If it’s what the public wants, give it to them!! They kept the Audi A3 from us fro waaaay too long, and now the Rocco? C’mon VW…. Don’t be that way. We’ll let the GTI down nicely. She’s been good to us over the last few years, but sometimes you just need to try something new.
