World's Fastest Limo Catches Flak From Ferrari
By Jen
Editor
It’s not really surprising that Ferrari would frown quite deeply upon the idea of aftermarket mods to their vehiclesI’m sure they love reminding anyone who’ll listen that you can’t improve upon perfection, blah-blah-blah. But what’s really got them hopping mad is that Dan Cawley, the Guinness World Record holder for fastest limousine, which he built from a Ferrari 360 Modena, won’t quit calling his ride a "Ferrari." You’d think they’d appreciate the free publicity and the Guiness honors, but instead, the company is throwing a hissyfit, demanding that the owner strip off the Prancing Horse emblems and other brand paraphernalia, and that he cease to refer to the vehicle as a "Ferrari" in written or spoken communication. Cawley will face legal action for copyright infringement if he fails to heed their demands, the company rumbles, and furthermore, he is forbidden from ever modifying a Ferrari again. I’m almost expecting them, next, to demand that he go to his room and think about what he’s done. Are they just lashing out at Cawley because they’re sore about the recent fake-Ferrari fracas in Italy? And what do you think he’s supposed to call this awesome limo, if the F-word is off the table?

They also had a problem when a guy in Turkey called up to ask for parts because he was adding an LPG system to his Modena (As far as I remember). They apparently paid him the money and asked him to return the product. Just a touchy bunch of idiots!
I think in any court the outcome would be the same as the outcome they had for Sony taking people to court for chipping their consoles: In short, I paid for the product and I can do whatever I want to it
However, since the problem is image, maybe if they focused more on their burning cars rather than this stuff that might help their image a bit more, no? Then again, they seem to manage to keep those out of the press pretty well… hmmmmm…

Hey eric name a place you can do 160mph everywhere. By the way I hope ferrari made him sign a contract saying he couldn’t make a limo out of his car or there is no case. Also congrats on the new word you made up (americanize) Dumb A**!!!

Dude, Eric WTF is ur problem!!! Damn you are acting like the little 7 year old people that Ferrari has at the moment. I love Ferrari too (But I would prefer a Ford superduty or a R34 anyday) but get over it. The guy made a “legal” purchase of a Ferrari 360 and added a couple of inches. and are you a raciest? what do you mean by “Americanize”? (I really know what you mean, okay I watch TopGear) huh. I see people moddin Skylines and they have ton’s of racing heritage (R32 GTR) and Nissan doesn’t complain. I’m 17 and have three cars that are modded and Chevy and Toyota don’t come to my door and take my trucks up. And to the guy who owns the Ferrari, not my taste but props to you for being different.

I have too seen a Ferrari in person, it was a hotwheel car my mom bought me for christmas. I loved it, until my dog ate it. So there, now if you will excuse me, I’m late for my A.A. meeting.

Eric, you are so stupid. Like you have ever bought a Ferrari and drove it around Italy. You’ve probably never even seen a Ferrari in person, let alone sat, rode or drove in one. Yeah, let’s Americanize everything and turn it in to SUVs- how lame can you be?

so should GM start harrassing all the owners of the hummer limos? wtf, they should accept it as a compliment that someone picked there car for there limo business, all he did was extend the damn thing.

To hell with Ferrari. Sure its a design of beauty and all that crap. But a limo? Sweet! Ferrari should bask in the flow of al that is good, and the free publicity. If I were them, I’d pay him the original cost of the Modena, plus the cost of the UPGRADE and put it in thier museum! How often does something like this come around? Wonder what a stretch Saleen S7 would look like?

If I were him, I would polish the emblems, wash the car, offer rides to horny prom kids, get paid buku bucks to rent it out to wedding parties… Every one is right as far as the money paid to own the car. He purchased the right to drive the car as he saw fit. The only downside I can see is the obviously voided warranty.

ask the automotive /industrial designer.no body likes their creative work being played around with by people who dont have any know-how of design. of course u pay millions for the car. but all cars are not sold to people who can apreciate its factory design, engineering .is the uneducated people who do the shit stuff. if the officials at ferrari are criticizing this limo then its obviously because the person who did it nows nothing about design evolution.
i say dedicated sports cars should only be sold to people who respect design, engineering..but damn the economic requirements of most companies that thry sell their cars to anybody rich.

If he paid a quarter mill for the car, he can throw some streamers on the rear-views and call it a day for all it matters. to many italian egos for one country to hold i guess.

just think about how many centerlinks have to be in that driveshaft! i doubt it would hold up to 160 mph…..but still its an awesome limo…..wish i had one of these when i went to prom haha

Just for that, someone should invent http://www.modifiedFerraris.com A site that only features insanely modified Ferraris such as one above. Could you imagine the Sh#t fit Ferrari would have then?

man that car looks sick as hell, if i had millions upon millions of dollars id think of something crazy to do with my money to, so what he turned a sweet ride into an even sweet ride, now he can pick up a bunch of ladies from the clubs now lol,(laugh out loud for those who dont understand) im not to familiar on the legal system in the states and europe but im leaning towards that ferrari doesnt have nothing in this case, ferrari can burn for all i care, AWESOME LIMO, lets see a longer one now hahaha

Mar 8, 2008 at 2:09 am
Ferrari doesn’t have the right to sue him, he paid the $250,000 for his car and now he can do what he pleases with it as long as its not illegal and last time I checked there’s no law against turning your own car into a limo

BTW Eric, STFU means “shut the f*** up”
Nate
Mar 6, 2008 at 10:36 pm
And you dont think a pointless SUV wont bring the value down? If they would care about heritage as you say they do, they wouldnt even have considered an SUV. And does Ferrari even make the 360 Modena anymore? If they dont, how would that even affect Ferrari right now seeing as its a obsolete model?
eric
Mar 6, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Okay but It still doesnt make this Limo Any better. plus they care more about it than you think. Thats exactly why thier doing it, The actual value will be lost if you sit there and tell people they make a limo version somewhere in moranville. thanks for the STFU? not real sure what the hell that means cause im not a fifteen year old girl addicted to texting.
Nate
Mar 6, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Eric, STFU! Its his opinion if he likes it or not. When a corporation tells the people what their opinions should be, thats when its time to draw the line! Im pretty sure he doesnt care what people think. If he did, he wouldnt have modded it. I hate the way ricers look, but is it my choice to tell the owner to switch it back to stock cus it looks like crap? NO. And anyways, isnt Ferrari planning on building an SUV? Wheres the racing herritage now? Just goes to show you that Ferrari is only a corporation willing to do anything to make profits. They dont care about heritage or anything like that, just profits. So next time learn how the world works before you post anything stupid.
Eric
Mar 6, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Besides I already showed a bunch of people this photo, and they thought it looked weird. I hope ferrari wins this suit cause if he they dont then we might as well americanize all the good cars and turn them into SUV’s LOL.
eric
Mar 6, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Yeah cause it makes sense to make a LIMO FERRARI why? It doesnt look cool, wouldn’t you rather just own the car and drive 160 everywhere, as opposed to looking like a goofball on the highway. But I guess its cool cause we can put BMW stickers on our PONTIACS LOL. get real about cars.
Jake
Mar 6, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Ferrari has absolutely no grounds in this case. He owns the car, therefore he can call it whatever he wants and mod it however he wants. Its ludicrous for them to even think that they can tell this guy what he can and cannot do to HIS car.
FERRARI LIMO FTW!
Highspeedhijinks
Mar 6, 2008 at 3:07 pm
When a company tells me what I can and cant do to a car after its purchased, they can go straight to hell in the worlds fastest FERRARI LIMO.
~
That really is completly ubsurd and I hope the judge is of sound enough mind to throw that case out.

Mar 6, 2008 at 1:52 pm
so you can’t modify your own car if your manufacturer doesn’t approve of your list of mods what kinda sh*t is that. Did any one mention to these italian suits that we can pretty much do what ever we want to our rides its called freedom

Mar 6, 2008 at 11:14 am
I used to have an old BMW decal on the back of my long forgotten POS 92 Pontiac bonneville…..I think he should slap on lambo decals just to further enrage them
Nate
Mar 6, 2008 at 5:39 am
Eric, I feel a corporation should not decide what you can and cannot do with YOUR property. ITS HIS, NOT FERRARI’S, SIMPLE AS THAT!
Adam
Mar 6, 2008 at 5:22 am
Next he should “Donk” a Ferrari, just to spite the company! Dont get me wrong, I love the style, passion, and heritage of the italian power house, but get over it. What about all the action movies that have blown up and destroyed Ferraris.
Eric
Mar 6, 2008 at 5:14 am
Yeah but FERRARI has a REAL racing heritage that can’t be touched, its not just an awesome car that you purchase, but you get a whole lot out of it. I fell ferrari isn’t in the wrong for this. cause if you are gonna make a LIMO out of one then there goes the value of it. Its cheesy and very americanistic to do such a thing to a beautifal car. Unlike us americans who transform everything we drive, europeans really drive thier cars, and feel very strongly the way they should be handled. I met alot of folks who own very rare auto’s and it’s more or less somehing that you probably don’t really understand untill you visit ITALY and buy a FERRARI and drive it around the countryside, its truly an experience.
retroman
Mar 6, 2008 at 2:13 am
If it’s his, and it’s a real Ferrari, then there’s nothing that they can do about it. I guess this suit means GM should deny there ever was a Hummer limo and Ford should deny that someone stretch not only a Mustang, but a GT and a Shelby Cobra as well. Hmmm… do you see those companies demanding debadging and suing over it? I don’t think so. Oh, I forgot to mention I’ve seen a stretched Lambo too and Lamborghini didn’t put up as much as a peep about it.
