Spied: Is this a Dodge Nitro SRT8?

By Drew Johnson

Left Lane News

Spies have snapped photos of an SRT-badged Dodge Nitro prototype running around downtown Detroit. The undisguised Nitro was spotted pulling out of the famous Detroit Firehouse–the favorite Chrysler-sponsored hospitality spot for journalists covering the Detroit Auto Show.

As the Nitro pulled into traffic and stopped at a red light, the SRT badge came into view, and our spy was able to get out his camera and start shooting just as the light turned green and the Nitro drove out of sight. The view of this Nitro SRT8’s nose was very fleeting, so we can’t reliably comment on the prototype’s front-end styling treatment. Overall, this Nitro doesn’t appear heavily modified.

Sources familiar with Chrysler’s current inner workings have stated that the majority of the company’s engineering resources have been directed toward improving the current product range to improve and enhance the vehicles currently in showrooms–which could apply to this addition to the Nitro brand. Given Cerberus’ cautious reassessment of the Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge model lineups, however, we’re not sure that the notion of a Nitro SRT8 makes much sense. But there is no arguing with the SRT8 badge on this Nitro tester. We’ll stay on the case to see if any more Nitro SRT8 evidence surfaces. More photos at Left Lane News.

well, im sorry to dissapoint you guys, but there are multiple test srt-8 nitro subjects sitting in the chrysler hq parking lot. they had been there for awhile, basically since they first came out.
none of them have too much body changes because they are all r/t mules.
but expect a new front a rear fascia similar to the jeep grand cherokee…meaning, lower front air damn possibly with “gills” on the side near the wheel wells, and dual exhaust in the back like the concept.
(not centered)…
also, i have been informed that a flipper glass window will be part of all the nitros on the ’09s just a small needed fix because of complaints.
why they didnt install one to begin with…well, my source, who is sits close enough to all these details on a daily basis said it was cost saving…similar to the reason why the caliber does not have break away mirrors. (idiots haha).
but yea… expect an 09 srt8 nitro (using the 4.7 most likely, or even better, the 4.0v6 with the original tested supercharger that was on the crossfire)

Weren’t they talking of letting the Nitro run its product life like the Viper, then axing it so why go through the trouble of a special edition? I admit it’s cool, but I’m just curious.

No no, lets not worry about making a relaible 4 cyl car that could save this company, lets put a V8 into a Liberty.
