I build custom high HP cars down in Savannah Georgia, and sell them off. Every time I can tell when a kid is going to act cocky and kill himself in them, now when I build them, I put at least a roll cage, hopefully the kid is smart enough to wear a helmet too. I drive a 96 Turbo Supra, and it’s all stock. Does 0-100kph in 4.5 seconds, I don’t know of any american cars (not supercar, like viper, corvette etc) that can really match it.
The Supra is not considered a supercar either, but it is massively quick, and amazing through the corners. Not trying to bag anyone’s cars here, but I think Japanese sportscars are built to a different ethos than american cars, which I also love. For an extra 5 grand or so, I can get the car into the 10’s, that kind of money on a supercharged on NA car would pretty much get you nowhere. Weather you like the idea or not, it’s fair to say that The turbo charger is an amazing piece of ingenuity. I don’t really need torque, torgque is great if you want to pull a campervan with you on your drag run haha, I just want to get the car there. =P

Doesn’t matter what the cars look like, they look fuckin different because they are personalized. There is no question that an import is more efficient than an American piece of shit. They can’t even get a 4 banger turbo right. They are brutal. I make 400whp CRX on a 1.6l SOHC, cost me very little, it’s still rare, and I waste bikes for fun. This with 30mpg. This is where a part is scheduled to fail, as it ties back into the cycle of scheduled maintenance, feeding the service industry that they provide, at decent comparable prices, I must say. IT’s a STRATEGY to benefit the brand. It’s always been that way, they have grown huge because of it, and still use it today, but with a 13% standard on engineering these days to compete with the maintenance-less imports and the little scheduled service they require. AMERICAN CAR COMPANIES BUILT THIS STRATEGY.

Import cars have prided themselves on their engineering, and therefore how long the car would last was a judgment to how well the car was built. THAT was their strategy, who could out build a car. Ergonomics, engineering are STRATEGIES to differentiate themselves fro m a massive GM type company, filling in the holes and taking the share of market from them.

Basically import are everything American cars aren’t and more, as this is the survival strategy to penetrate a new market, called diversification.

That’s the lesson for today, stop comparing the cars, they are in different worlds. American cars are great fro people who know nothing about cars, as they are ignorant like GM itself. Money money money.

I feel really sorry for the passenger Graziano, but I have no sympathy for Nick Hogan, I knew him as a person in Clearwater (I lived in Pinellas Park) and he was the type of individual that thought he was above everyone. i dont believe that car was doing 150 because as others were saying before if he hit a tree doing 150 miles an hour you would not be able to tell what the car even was, the amount of G’s that take place when going from 150 to 0 in less than a second would rip every peace of that car apart whether is was a part of the car at actually contacted the tree or not. We had a kid do this same thing over here two years ago, though he killed the two passangers that were riding with him. And another person that was drag racing on the city streets and lost control and crossed the center line and hit another vehilce head on, killing all four passengers it the only car, but walking away themselves. I personally know how much safe import vehicle are than domestic ones. I’ve worked as a tech and have been to school for GM, Honda, and Mercedes Benz. I don’t need no car and driver or motor trend report that is a controlled crash test to tell me other wise. Those test aren’t the real world. Who smashes into a brick wall at 60mph or gets hit with a steel beam in the side or rear straight on? No one, people that wreck hit trees, poles, or other vehilces that aren’t the same size as theirs. Nick Hogan is luck as hell to be alive as well as his passenger. He should have serious punishment for how stupid he was to do this. He should be forced to sit through meetings with families that lost loved ones due to automotive accidents, especially ones that were innocent by standards. 3) Without being able to examine the road surface at the accident site, I can only speculate that the driver impacted a curb which caused the car to spin out of control. None of the tires appear shreaded which would be apparant in a blowout. However, the passenger’s rear wheel has a noticable damage which could cause a dramatic loss of tire inflation and thus leading to the accident.
4) Since the passenger’s cockpit area shows minor damage (seat is intact, the door is intact and still attached to the car, there is no impact damage to the dashboard, etc.), it would appear the passenger was using the seatbelt. Thus I could speculate the extent of their injuries would be to whiplash which would require an extration from the vehicle.

1) All post crash pics look alot worse than the actual crash. 50% of the “damage” is caused by the fire and rescue teams as they use the Jaws of Life to extract any injuried individuals.

2) In the photos shown, the main impact was on the driver’s rear of the car. It also appears the impact object was the nearby palm tree as it has curved surface which appears on the driver’s rear portion of the car. Based on the “minor extent of deflection” on the driver’s rear, this car was probably traveling under 60mph. If the speed at impact was higher, there would be a greater “deflection” into the car’s occupancy area. From the pics, there appears to be little structural damage here, mostly causing a buckling of the frame and cockpit. This would cause the doors to be wedged, thus requiring removal for medical extraction (doors are intact, but seperated from the car).

Uh, people, yes there is a murder charge. Its called vehicular manslaughter. A guy died in this crash and another was left in serious condition.

I can only hope that the justice department in clearwater isnt like the ones in LA where they let off celebrities with a slap on the wrist. I hope nick gets shafted in the ass by this.

I’ve seen a Supra accident in person – where the driver was doing ~100mph. The damage was nothing compared to this. I’ve also seen plenty of Supra ‘car’nage photos where the driver was doing some pretty good speeds. These cars are tanks. Although… my statement would have been more accurate stating there is no way this car was doing less than 150 when it lost control.

It is a total miracle that either of these two are even alive today.

He very well could have been doing 150 before the crash. Clearly, he didn’t hit the tree head-on (the front end is the only recognizable part of the whole car), and even though I don’t know anything about this particular case, just going off the most common way people lose control of cars that are too over-powered for them to handle, he probably lost control at high speed and hit the tree more or less sideways, losing speed in the skid. But that’s completely irrelevant. 155 or 105, he’s no less of an idiot. He’s just one more example of the spoiled, self-entitled rich and famous the news is unfortunately full of.

…Anyone want to buy a slightly used front mount intercooler for a supra? Once owned by someone slightly famous! Sounds like a good celebrity auction.

That car was clearly not doing 150. A car doing 150 that hits a palm tree doesnt even resemble a car any more. However this accident is just one more example of someone not having any respect for the others they endanger by driving cars they can’t handle that for whatever reason could have very well resulted in killing his friend or undeserving bystanders. This was not the first time for this young man either. Nick Bollea, the driver, also known as Nick Hogan has been in trouble before for driving too fast.

On Aug. 10, Pinellas Park police pulled him over for going 82 mph in a 45 mph zone. He was cited for speeding in a construction zone with workers present and not wearing a seat belt. His court date was set for Sept. 10. Then in April, he was cited for going 106 mph in a 70 mph zone according to his state driving records. Then he turns right around on August 28 and does this. And these are only the times he got caught. Anyone who can even think of defending this type of moronic disregard or consider it as cool is themselves a total moron.

What a waste of a car, I feel kinda sorry for the passenger… though im sure he already knew how much of a dumbass driver Nick Hogan was/is. Hopefully that kid will never get behind a vehicle ever again.

There is no possible way this car was doing under 150 mph when it hit. Anyone that tries to make you believe they weren’t speeding should be arrested for taking drugs.
