UTCC Contender: 450 HP Ariel Atom
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
These Ariel Atoms are super light weight and are already scary fast with alittle over 200 hp. So what happens if you double the horsepower? Thefunny part is that this car is street legal in California, too. It’s not hard to see why Peter’s car is near the top of the Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge rating category.

Actually Peters car is putting out 435hp. They dyno’d it the day of the event to tweak it. Peter had the engine out 5 times in the previous few months. Only one related to the buildup I beleive the rest related to tranny issues.

Seen videos of these last night. Watched Jeremy Clarkson on Youtube put one thru its paces. Funny to see his face flapping in the wind like that.

Not crazy about Clarkson and some of his opinions, but the car’s a blast, undeniably, and AFFORDABLE beyond belief considering what it delivers. Clarkson rated it just below the number 1 spot in his performance lineup. Number 1 is a $500,000 Ferrari. You can buy a fleet of Atoms for that money.

That thing is just awesome, but I have to admit it looks like a Micro Machine with that big ol Audi behind it. Oh well, I still want one.
