Totally Sketch: Wooden Motorcycle

There’s probably a safe way to make a motorcycle out of wood, but this thing looks like a metaphor for sketchy. Seriously, if you were going to use wood for a bike frame, don’t you think it would be smart to start with brand new lumber, instead of the recycled building materials this monstrosity is apparently constructed from? That seems like a no-brainer. Just looking at this thing gives me the willies.

I’d say it could be wrapped in resin and fabric but that’d add about 40 lbs, lol… Maybe some Thompson Water Seal or maybe deck stain (translucent). Give it a good sanding, maybe add some adornments (got a woodburning kit?)

This would be nice at Sturgis and Daytona but would have to be trailered for freeway driving. The wood used seems to still have some decent integrity left but any accident above 30 MPH would turn this thing into toothpicks. Unless properly wood treated it would have to stay out of the rain as well. Although that engine looks to be setup for sunny weather riding anyways.

Well, he used gussets and plates where bolts penetrate the wood. It sure looks ugly, but the age and appearance of the wood I don’t think is a factor as long as it’s not degraded, split, rotted and I see none of that.

Also, the thickness of the parts seems to be good at a glance. I don’t know… I think I’d take it for a ride around the block to check it out.
