400HP Eagle Takes Flight From Dyno

By John Coyle

Editor

This is why people have nightmares about putting their cars on the dyno. Yes, the stall at the beginning does portend bad things—but the outcome is way worse than I predicted. I figured this situation would end up something like  the one with this wicked Skyline did, but like I’ve been so many times before, I was wrong. One other thing: the guy who says "all right" at the end of the video? He’s a trooper. When it hits the fan, having someone who keeps their head on straight is important.

Wow. Went from calling me a giant douche to saying cheers, buddy.
-
It’s reasonable, whatever the percentage is to expect that none of them will launch. It’s unreasonable to criticise those who expect better than what happened to this Eagle or any number of other rides.
-
Or is it that you get your fun out of watching others’ un-earned misfortunes.
-
You’re being complacent about something that dosen’t warrant such complacency.

hahhaha you’re really taking this personally, and I, for one, find that very amusing. Think about the ratio of how many dyno runs are happening trouble-free vs. how many accidents like this happen. It’s uptight folks like you that make me love blogs and forums, Cheers to you buddy.

I work in industry. If something can be improved and made safer, it is. If something has an unnecessary amount of risk we don’t sit around like freaking morons saying “shit happens”, we make improvements. That’s how it’s done.

nothing more graceful than an eagle taking flight lol, damn that would suck, i would have thought at least there would be something holding the car straight, especially with an all wheel drive car like this, wow common sense just isnt that common

NO, see you’re confusing the road with the shop, you freaking idiot. NOT the same.

hahahahahah wow man. All I can say to that is.. “Giant. Douche.”

And it’s true dude, shit does happen.. everywhere, all the time. They’re called “Accidents”. That’s like me saying “There should be no car accidents, everybody should be perfect drivers”

Sorry, I meant to address the post below to NeilG, not address the post as him.

“Not gona get anywhere complaining on how things SHOULD have been done.”

Wow. Good thing NASA or even the NTSB or FAA don’t think that way.

“It was an accident dude, chill out. Shit happens…”
-
I don’t think shit should be happening on dynos. Side-roller wheel restraints could prevent a car from popping off sideways. Would have kept that one on.
-
It just makes no sense at all that there’s a risk of rides being trashed because of a lack of adequate thought on how to restrain them.

Im amazed that it was able to slide that far sideways. I wonder how they secured it. Oh well.. this is what insurence is for.

You guys should check out this 500hp Spirit R/T that almost jumped the dyno. What’s more exciting, coming face to face with a 500hp k-car or having it nearly jump the dyno on you.

just for kicks, you should see this 10sec Dynasty(?) take down a Supra.

It was an accident dude, chill out. Shit happens, deal with it and move on. Not gona get anywhere complaining on how things SHOULD have been done.

“Allright”?
-
NOT allright. There should be no Dyno hop videos, ’cause there should be no cars hopping off them. I may be an idealist (no doubt about that, no apologies either) but frankly if the technology was developed to read the WHP from cars, something as basic as being able to SECURE every one of these cars should have been developed.
-
This was a side-hop which I’ve never seen before and I think is even more inexcuseable than having a car lurch forward but none of this is acceptable.

I cried a little….. That is exactly why I would be so reluctant to have my car dyno’d, cause you know your insurance would take one look and kick your ass out the door. Though I have to hand it to the owner, he didn’t explode like I thought he would.
