2009 Honda Fit
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Whoops, somehow I totally missed the 2009 Honda Fit unveil at NYIAS. I guess I was eating lunch. Or writing about something with a little more horsepower. Anyway, my friend, who hates cars, has determined that the Fit offers the best combination of low price, interior space and fuel economy, while fighting off depreciation in that Honda kind of way. In fact, Car & Driver’s long term Fit had an operating cost of just ten cents per mile. Too bad it’s so homely. And did market research indicate that the politically correct crowd likes cars with fugly, view-obstructing A-pillars?
Anyway, this car-hating friend of mine is buying a 2008 model–he doesn’t feel like waiting for the 2009 model, which looks marginally better, has marginally more hp, is marginally bigger, safer and marginally more high tech. More pics over at Jalopnik, who were a little more on the ball than me.

I just bought an 09 fit and love it. absolutely amazes me on gas mileage. I went from driving an 07 frontier crew cab 4×4 to a fit and don’t have one regret. The fit is only rated for 35 miles on the highway. most of my driving is highway i would estimate 75% highway 25% city and i am getting anywhere from 40 to 45 mpg. its great when i have to file up now. instead of $60 to $70 a fill-up it is now costing me $22 to $30 – if you have any questions about it feel free to email me.

I think this newer one is targeting the yaris, which in my opinion is a pretty crappy move. The yaris is butt ugly and the current fit has that genuine honda look to it, this new one is just bull****

Rob,
Americans need to re-think their driving habits and their eating habits – scarfing down a couple greasy burgers and fries there were you?
I’m a VW van guy that has switched to the HONDA FIT. The kids I coach think it is great (sport model). It holds a ton of ski gear and it handled two road trips in blizzard conditions – the car is amazing. Why do you keep promoting those SUV’s and gas guzzling engines? This country could save billions in medical cost by eating smart and we could start using millions of gallons less of fuel if we all used a little common sense and started driving smart.

Your comments are the typical BS coming out of the mouths (or fingertips) of most Americans today. We are dumping more CO2 into the atmosphere than any other nation, yet all Americans seem to be concerned with is how much food they can stuff into their mouths, and larger cars/SUV’s with more horsepower.

I love the *idea* of the current Fit, but I just can’t get behind the looks. As I definitely have a soft spot for tiny, reliable, utilitarian cars like this, I’m kinda liking the ‘09, but I’ll reserve judgment until I see pictures from a few more angles.

wow, they just slapped on some 7th gen Accord headlights, and re-worked the tail-lights…lame, I like the current Fit MUCH better!

Rob, your heart just wasn’t in this one.

Then again, just the appearance of this thing seems to sap motivation.
