What Did You Do This Weekend?
By Jen Dunnaway

I was gonna do some head work on my diesel Escort, but was totally thwarted by Zombie Jesus Day. I stupidly waited until Sunday to get some of the tools I needed, and by then, any place that might’ve had an 24" breaker bar was closed. There wasn’t even a Sprint Cup race on Sunday either, so I was thoroughly miserable. I did, however, find out that Simple Green does in fact bust through JB Weld if you work at it long enough.
I hope you had better luck than I did. What did you do this weekend?

Friday night I used an old stock headunit to test my Fiero’s speaker wiring. Turns out the headunit that came with the car was busted so I didn’t have to replace all of the passenger side speaker wire. I also got a chance to use a tool I’ve never considered using on a head unit before: the ball peen hammer!
Then Sunday morning my suspiscions about the remaining life of the battery that came with the Fiero were confirmed, so I drove the Monte to the gym instead. But on the positive side, gas dropped 6 cents here!

Evan, after reading a bunch of stuff I went with a polymer sealant over a wax primarily for a more durable protection and a slicker finish that beads water and repels other crud. The Rejex claims of longer durability seemed credible enough to give it a shot…but I’m going to have to wait to see how long it lasts before I’m convinced. I think a Carnauba wax would probably produce a warmer finish but that isn’t my priority at the moment.

Rajan, nice car man! I just checked that out. Can I ask what kind of wax and stuff you used?
This weekend I waxed both our vehicles with some Wax that I’ve had for a few years now and love but, they don’t seem to make it any more. It’s Simoniz Wax with Teflon in it but, it doesn’t seem to be on the shelf anymore. Figures get something good and they don’t sell it anymore.

It was a rainy weekend but I got my new ride (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3032874) detailed at Mirrorworks Detail in Seattle – hand wash, cut and polish, clay, seal. My primary goal was protection and ease of maintenance along with removal of hazing and bringing out the Lemans Blue color as an added benefit. Learned all about Menzerna vs Klasse vs Rejex…went with Rejex…supposed to last longer…we’ll see how it goes.
