Dainiese D-Air Jacket in Action

By John Coyle

Editor

I’ve been reading about these airbag-equipped motorcycle jackets forever, but this is the first time I’ve ever seen one in action. From the looks of this video, it does appear like this trick piece of kit would make a spill considerably more comfortable, although I wonder how much it costs to repack the jacket. What you think? Would you wear one?

I can’t wait to see the first “cool guy” that hops off his bike at Starbucks and forgets to disconnect the airbags. Poof! Instant dork.

Good product idea, but for any kind of motorcyclist who rides a sportsbike, bad demonstration. The airbag did nothing and what saved him any pain is the fact he was wearing leathers, which on a racetrack is all you need to stay safe. For a product like this to catch on, it needs better real world application against other obstacles. For proof that leathers can protect a fall at almost any speed, just watch this.

IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE IT HELPS MUCH FALLING OFF DOING 15MPH AND SLIDING. LETS SEE THE BIKE T-BONE A CAR AT 30MPH AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I HOPE MORE SAFETY GEAR CAN BE MADE FOR THE BIKER, BUT I DOUBT THEY’LL USE IT. IN MY STATE WE DON’T HAVE HELMET LAWS, AND A HELMET WOULD’VE SAVE A BIKERS LIFE TWO DAYS AGO IN MY TOWN.
