Saab 9-3 vert vs. Volvo C70: Which Would You Choose?

We’ve actually gotten a bit of sun in Seattle in the last few days and I’ve seen a few folks cruising around with the top down. So, in honor of the sun and our city’s significant Nordic heritage, this week’s Showroom Showdown features two topless Swedes. The Saab comes in the extra cool Aero version, but to keep it fair we’re gonna compare the Saab 9-3 2.0T vert to the Volvo C70–both cars come in right around $40k. Both cars are FWD and have fairly modest hp numbers (the Saab’s turbo four banger makes 210hp, the Volvo’s turbo inline five makes 227hp). The Volvo sports a retractable hardtop while the Saab has the conventional cloth top. Neither of these cars will be terribly reliable or hold their value very well, so I would suggest a lease. But it would be a fun lease. So, which would you choose, the Saab 9-3 2.0T vert or the Volvo C70?

Saab nose design is more agressive and I like it ! Volvo is best of its elegant standart and its more like home frendly !

The Volvo is 6-7K cheaper than the Saab with similar features. The hard top looks and functions much better. Volvo for sure.

It cracks me up that anyone is saying volvo. Furthermore, some comments have pointed out that the volvo is safer.. Seriously?? Check out IIHS ratings for the 9-3 people.. Actually SAFER than c70. And btw, an AERO for hardly any more $ would absolutely crush the volvo in HP and handling! Saab vert without question is the better car!!

Saab has always been the sportier drive from Sweden. The Aero Version is a great Jet.

deep down it all comes down to which car suites your needs better, where you live and all that. as for me itd be neither cause where i live you need a truck an 4wd to get anywhere but if i had to choose itd be the Saab 9-3 only cause i love the Viggens and a convertible 9-3 aint half bad i guess ….i just hate convertibles id prefer targa or a t-top.

for some reason everyone thinks that Saab is completely GM… when in actuality, very few parts are actually constructed in GM plants in North America. Most of it is either constructed in Austria or in the Swedish plant, and all designs are completely from Saab and not GM (except for the 97x, which is a different skin on a damn Trailblazer SS). My mother is looking to buy her 3rd Saab, and the last 2, a 97 and an 04 with all the options, hands down made volvo seem to be worth 10 grand less than its price, even after the steep military discount and purchasing overseas.
in case you couldn’t tell, i would choose a Saab.

Saab all the way, a buddy used to work for saab so i got to drive the 4dr 9-3 and it was pretty nice, now im not sure but they might make the 9-3 aero in the 2dr version which if true would be a 258hp 2.8 V6, its their new motor design id take that over the volvo in a heartbeat.

C70 all the way.
1) It’s one of the safest brands on the road today.
2) It has one of the most comfortable interiors.
3) It’s not a GM brand.
4) It has a great sounding Dynaudio sound system
I think the Saab is a cooler design, but the subtle sportiness of the Volvo has my vote.
