What It’s Like To Be A Chick in Manhattan With A DeLorean

By Jen Dunnaway

Over the weekend, the New York Times ran this human-interest piece on DeLorean owner Lauren Reilly (her vanity plate: "DELAUREN"). It documents the daily realities of running a DMC in NYC, fielding a lot of flux-capacitor jokes and getting pulled over by cops out of simple curiosity—but much of it should ring true for just about anyone who drives a weird old unconventional love-’em-or-hate-’em ride in an area where everyone else has a shiny, generic new commuter-pod. Check out the article and the cool slide-show, which features a voice-over by Lauren talking about her ride.

Oh I forgot to mention, I thought you all might want to see a 24k gold plated Delorean. I believe there were only 3 made, two with automatics one with manual. Here’s a link: http://www.bigtexas.com/dmc/

I know a guy who comes to the town cruise ins. One of the best moments in my life was getting to sit in his DeLorean. I can’t tell you how right this car feels in terms of style. Buckets are a little low, but nothing matches looking up at the trademark gull wing doors. As for people staring at one today, that was well predicted in Back to the Future part 2. That was the one where Marty has to visit the year 2015. Some old guy came out and said something like A Delorean, I havent seen one of those in years!! Oh, by the way, it’s 2008 already and I’m still waiting for flying cars, quick self drying clothes, and my own personal hover board.

Drive a Pacer.

Same amount if not more attention…a fraction of the price…and mechanical parts to keep it on the road are readily available.

Yea, I’m sick of hearing Wayne’s World or Party On…but as she said, a lot of time it’s like having your own paparazzi.

I give her props though. More people need to drive goofy cars. It’s fun.

God I love that car. Pristine Stainless is in a class and style all its own.

I’ve often wondered what some other rides would look like in stainless.

I think that is great. Good on her for owning something different! Our Firebird gets plenty of attention in our city. Being such a rare car overhere, we get alot of looks…and isn’t that what owning a unique car is all about, getting that attention and standing out from the crowd. Once again congrats to her for driving something special.
