If you pause the video right where he is under the hood of the vehicle you can see the front wheel veering to the right, which tells me the vehicle was not going directly at him and once Kobe jumped then the driver started to veer to the right to make it seem that Kobe jumped right above him.

I agree with some comments, if it went wrong he would have ruined his career. And he was on the side of the car.

all of you are wrong. i examined it as well too. i hit the pause button just about every second. he was able to vertically leap over the car but he was not standing directly in front of the car either, which was smart seeing as he could’ve ruined his whole career had something gone wrong. had he been directly in front of the car THAT TIME he would’ve made it though. can’t say the same about the rest.

He was on film jumping that high, then they recorded the car driving by at speed and edited the film to appear as tho he jumped over the car. they do that all the time in movies, just look at southland tales on the bonus features.
