Green Lantern Shines Light on Donkability
By John Coyle
Editor
Last month, Rob posted about a cherry ’74 Caprice and he asked the eternal question: "to donk, or not to donk?" Given the amount of hate hi-risers have generated here, it wasn’t too surprising that most responses were in favor of keeping the classic bow-tie stock, or going the opposite direction and lowering it. And while it’s not clear what happened to that sweet machine, yesterday, I stumbled across Ben’s sweet ’72 model—the Green Lantern—which gives a good idea of how the ’74 would look if given a dash of donkification. So what do you guys think, still think keeping it stock is the best idea?

Ghetto culture will rue the day it created these detestable vehicles. Creators and owners of these vile aberration’s will one day fall upon their knees and beg for the forgiveness of Henry Ford… but the Lord of Automobiles will show no mercy. For Henry Ford created automobiles for all purposes of good: transportation, recreation, sport, and show. A hi-rise serves none of these purposes. For it is a foul and twisted perversion that is much like homosexuality. I have not gone too far and I will go further… hi-rises are in fact the root of all current homosexuality. Heed my warning all who dabble in the perverseness of donks, boxes, and bubbles. Your day of penitence is coming and Henry Ford will spit upon your worthless faces and and judge you as the human trash you are.

Stock. But, if you have the “mod” bug… lower it (on springs, not hydros)

BTW that’s one of the best rear window/roofline/rear decklid designs from the ’70s. I love the way that was designed and came together nicely. Those were pretty cool cars looking back, but I didn’t think so at the time.

The rear wheel well covers and the fact that this car isn’t raised anymore than it absolutely had to be really helps with the looks. Checked this over a couple times. This is my favorite donk. The rims work much better with this than most.

Eh, not a fan of the donk… but I’ve definitely see worse. At least it’s a big car with big rims, it’s all finish-coordinated and the mods aren’t overdone, ‘cept the rims a bit.

This car has had a lot of really nice work done to it.
.
The wheel/tire choice & filling the entire trunk aren’t MY thing,
BUT, I can appreciate the excellent work that went into that car.
.
On the first car, I’d leave it stock, or choose some aftermarket wheels, in maybe an 18″ or less, and lower it a bit with new springs.
.
I’d leave everything else alone…

Who said anything about stock? I’d rather see it lowered.
