Grand Theft Auto IV Released Today: Controversy Over?
By John Coyle
Editor
The fourth installment of Grand Theft Auto dropped today, and honestly, I was kind of surprised how little controversy the "controversial" game seemed to generate. This is an election year, after all, and given that most politicians will take any opportunity to pander to parents, I figured one of the major candidates would have made a statement about how the game is "harming the children." Even this piece on MSNBC focuses more on how fun it is to wreak havoc than any of the hoopla surrounding the series. So what do you think? Has the uproar passed, or is this the calm before the storm?

I have loved the series since the 2nd one. I don’t let my kids play it but sometimes I catch my 12 year old but she just runs around and jacks cars. I can live with that. I haven’t the money for the new release yet but think it would be cool as a sign of the times if they had the player do a gas and dash at gas stations around town. Remember the days of going for a joy ride? Man , that was really something. Now have to drive all day in a video game to get my fill, might have to add a fan on my face for the wind thru the hair feeling. I think politicians have bigger issues right now then what are kids are up to. Hell our kids will be lucky if they remember what cars were.

I never understood the controversy. If you don’t want your child to play it, don’t buy them the game. No reason to cause a big uproar.

This game is the SHIT!! And its under 17, not sold to, so whats the problem little kids aren’t going to get it unless you buy it for them, so just shut the fuck up already.

If you care for your kids, tell them right from wrong, and guide them in the right direction, they won’t shoot up a school.

I still don’t see the reason for all the controversy. Seriously, if it bothered parents that much they wouldn’t let their kids play it instead of complaining about the game. My parents wouldn’t have even let me buy something like that when i was young. It just seems more like parents dont have control and are complaining about it, but thats just me. My rant for the day.
