WRC JORDAN Rally Wrap Up: Hirvonen Wins!

After 350 KMs of grueling gravel, it was Mikko Hirvonen who came out on top. Jari Matti Latvala—who’d started the day in second—ended up finishing eighth after a rock destroyed part of his left rear suspension. In a scary moment, some roadside repairs almost saw the end of his co-driver, when the car rolled off its stands and nearly crushed him. Drama aside, the weekend belonged to Hirvonen, who won the inaugural event, and with it, his first victory of the season. He’s now just five points off four-time Champ Sebastien Loeb in the standings, but before he earns too many more wins, maybe someone should show him how to drink champagne properly. After all, it tastes better when you don’t try to absorb it through your eyes. The weekend’s other big news was Subaru driver Chris Atkinson’s finish. He managed to pilot his two year old car to third overall, for his fourth podium in just five events. Not bad! That’s it for the Jordon rally, but stay tuned—Sardinia is just two weeks away!
