One Lap of America Civic: Family Owned and Operated
By Jen Dunnaway

Father-son team Josh and Barry Duvall have a story behind their One Lap Civic that I think a lot of us can appreciate. Dad bought the car new in ’91 as an economical family hauler. It’s been through a lot, including having a barn blow over on top of it with the family inside. It was repaired, aged a few years, then passed along to Josh when it came time for him to go away to college. He took it from freshman-year beater to show car, dressing it up with the usual aftermarket wingdings, but it was only after he tired of that scene and started becoming interested in SCCA that the Civic’s real transformation began. Josh gutted the interior, swapped in a B16A, and set it up to be a pretty decent little track car. It makes 153 hp at the wheels and weighs in at around 2000 lbs. Sure, it’s not the most competitive car on One Lap, but that’s part of its charmand in the absence of pressure to take home the biggest trophy, father and son are free to just enjoy the already-intense thrill-ride that is One Lap. Plus, the Civic’s been performing just fine in its class, battling with the likes of a stock-engined Yaris and the badass smart, and it sounds plenty mean out on the track. Best of luck to Josh and Barrybut more importantly, keep having a great time!

Call me crazy but I like the 4th-gen civics. The little 91 just feels like home when I get behind the wheel, hell it’s part of the family. Keep and eye out for us, because we will be back maybe not next year unless I can find some sponsorship support, don’t have the money like the big dog’s.
We had a lot of fun running with Loren and Jeff, nice driving guys.
Test number one complete, and eventually the Sedan will be back with a few more improvements.
Thanks Again Jen for the Article.

Thank you, Jen, for such a nice write-up. As they say, “You come for the cars and the challenge, but you come back for the people.” We had the experience of a lifetime. We had a blast mixin’ it up with Loren and all the “RC” folks. Yes, the car is from central Pa. The Ol’ Honda never missed a beat and provided us with more SPM (smiles per mile) than any car there. Thanks again.
