“World’s Most Beautiful Roadster” From ‘84 Really Ugly

By John Coyle

Editor

According to the eBay listing, this was voted "World’s Most Beautiful Roadster" at the Oakland Roadster Show in 1984. But looking at it really makes me wonder just what the hell was going on in California that year. Is it just me, or is this thing—named the "California Star"—just completely hideous? It looks like a pair of cheap plastic sunglasses which swelled up and sprouted wheels. For the last couple of decades, it’s been stored in a barn, and with lines like this, it probably should have stayed there. For more details and pics, head over to eBay.

Rob, you’re not so far out there. Well, at least not with the Fieros. Well, at least not with the last years of the Fiero GT.

Well, ok Rob… you’re kinda out there but there’s nothing wrong with that. I think.

Some designs are timeless…. some are time capsules.

I agree, what a POS. Honestly, who would pay that much for something like this…and it doesn’t even have a V8. Tell him he’s dreamin’

YET ANOTHER example of a bunch of photos, and even a head-on shot… BUT NO 3/4 shot from the front or rear of the whole car! This is starting to irritate me like a sandpaper saddle.

It looks oh, so ’80s. I remember 1984 like it was yesterday. I can see how people back then would have thought it was beautiful. The 80’s were a cheesy glitzy adolescent time for America, and this ride reflects those qualities very well. It’s a Flock of Seagulls or Thomas Dolby, parachute pants and Michael Jackson’s red leather jacket, ‘cept with wheels and an engine.

To the creator’s defense, it looks well-built if anything. The fit ‘n finish definitely isn’t a’la Jed Clampett. Someone’ll probably snag this up and love it, even though its novel lines have done anything but withstand the test of time.

Ahhhhhh…
.
The 1980’s…
.
.
Some cars, music, and fashion are timeless.
.
Some are stuck in the 80’s, and didn’t age well…
.
.
This car is an example of something from the 80’s,
that makes one say, WTF were WE THINKING???
.
It is just plain ugly.
.
Looks like a Fiero mated with a cheap fiberglass hotrod kitcar.
.
.
Maybe I’ll buy it, and play some Flock of Seagulls…
Or better yet, the Miami Vice soundtrack…
.
Ah, the classics ;)
