NASCAR's All-Star Race: Win It or Crash Trying

By Jen Dunnaway

It’s that time of year again: on Saturday, NASCAR’s biggest winners will get together for the Sprint All-Star Race at Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte. This winner-take-all showdown doesn’t count for points, but the prize for first place is a cool 1 million dollars. NASCAR drivers still earn a lot less than many others in professional sports, so expect things to get crazy toward the end as drivers get dollar-signs in their eyes: this is the kind of race where cars are likely to finish upside-down and backwards, where drivers will plow through the infield grass to win (as Dale Earnhardt did in ’87), and where family members will even wreck each other in the scramble for the finish (as did the Busch brothers last year). The race begins under the lights at 7pm Eastern, Saturday. I think the only channel airing the All-Star might be Speed, which’ll pretty much doing all NASCAR, all weekend long.
