2010 Mustang on the Cover of Car and Driver

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

The June 2008 issue of Car and Driver sports a rendering of the 2010 Mustang. They report that the revised version of the Mustang will be revealed at the LA Auto Show later this year. I for one am very nervous that Ford is going to screw up the Mustang. The Car and Driver rendering doesn’t look too bad, but it’s not that great, either. The front clip reminds me of the 2005 concept–it’s not as extreme as the Giugiaro concept shown in late 2006. Word has it that the interior will be greatly improved (which is good) and there is mention of a new new 6.2-liter SOHC V-8 producing 400+ hp. Anyway, if Ford screws this up this will keep the resale price of the 2005-2009 cars high, which will delay my plans to get a 2005 for a daily driver. So, fingers crossed…

The 2010 Mustang has lines but still looks tough!

Guigiaro concept? Who wants an American muscle car that looks like a Japanese/European car? I don’t! It looks more like a space age Mitsubishi with Mustang trademarks than it does a Mustang to me. Nothing about it says American nor muscle.

They’ll do great they’re just toying with us to save the better design for the very last minute.

If that is the new Stang I think it looks fantastic. And a mouth-watering 6.2L will be an awesome addition to what already is a great car.

Are you kidding? How could Ford screw-up the design of the next Mustang? Its design elements are now a cliche. All the designers have to do is tweak them a little here and there to make it look ‘new’. But unlike the beautiful Guigiaro concept, Ford won’t take the re-design that far (enough) to make it look really hot. I wish Ford had bought Guigiaro’s car outright, legalized it to DOT standards, and brought it out as the 2010 model. Its looks would have blown-away the new Camaro.
