Captain Bacon:
-
Slotted rotors do work, although they're better used for racing/performance driving because you'll go through pads more quickly.
-
One advantage with slots is that braking is less vulnerable to water splash, helping move water away from the friction surfaces more quickly like the treads on your tires. Another is that in under extreme braking, gases generated from heat (overheating of binder material used to create brake pads) are less likely to interfere with rotor contact - this reduces brake fade*.
-
When compared with drilled rotors, slotted is better according to some sources because slotting greatly reduces the possibility of rotors cracking as happens with drilled. Also I've read that vented rotors (most common, have 2 discs with air slots between) really SHOULDN'T be drilled because the holes actually interfere with the airflow intended with the 2-disc surface design. This creates hot spots which in turn causes cracking.
-
*note that improvements in brake pad material composition has reduced the amount of gasses thus resulting brake fade in recent years, but it could still be a potential problem if you're using cheap pads.
-
hope I shed some light on this subject.

Very nice, but I already have a killer wallpaper. My Firebird.
-
Sometimes I change it out and show my Grand Prix GT instead.

I've heard that slotted rotors don't actually work. What the deal is?!
