Hey Teens, Wear Your Goddamn Seatbelt!

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Hey, check out this nifty little statistic from MSN: 68 percent of teens killed in car crashes at night were unbuckled. Does this mean that more teenagers buckle up during the day? I don’t know. Probably. But the point is, wear your goddamn seat belt. Chicks dig it, and it could prevent you from being killed or permanently disfigured. And if you kids don’t start buckling up more often, some lawmaker is gonna bring back automatic seat belts, and no one wants that.

Here is a new state PSA from montana for drinking and driving but it also incorporates not wearing a seat-belt. the video is absolutely amazing and i would love to see a open discussion about seat belt use.

The victim of the accident, Jeremy, had just came back to Montana with his wife and two small children. He and a friend were driving home together when the driver lost control and Jeremy was thrown from the vehicle. Because the friend was drunk, he is sitting in jail for manslaughter and you have a wife without a husband and two kids without their daddy. This is such an awesome video, I wish it were required in Driver’s Ed and then a refresher course at about 30.

LOL ” I ALWAYS WEAR MY SEATBELT” Im gonna go to heaven now! whatever if you dont wanna wear it then obviously you know you have a better chance of dying, why should someone enforce that choice! its like banning cigarettes, or CRAB FISHING! yeah it can KILL you and if cops dont like seeing it then here’s a solution “dont be a cop”

I always wear my seatbelt, and I make sure my passengers do too. If they don’t listen, I try explaining the whole gory “Do you want to become a 65mph human missile through my windshield?” thing. If they still don’t listen, I ask them to get out. If they don’t listen to that, then I take ‘em to a safe place and scare the pants off of ‘em. They usually agree to wear the belt after that. After all, when you put someone through the slalom and they’re being thrown around in the back seat, they’re bound to get your point (albeit with a headache) that they can’t hold themselves to that seat in case of sudden change of speed/direction. The other thing I hate is people who drive around with the seats reclined all the way. How do you see any thing like that? Then there’s cell phones and other distractions, but I won’t go there.

Why bring “God” into this? If they don’t wear seatbelts, they’re likely to meet Him head-on anyway(!).

I had auto seat belts in my ‘93 Sentra… I think they proved those things killed and injured more people than normal seat belts because most people failed to use the lap belt portion. Ugh, that’d suck to have those back…. I automatically buckle up anyway, I am a good girl :)

Seriously I always like having my seat belt on. It keeps me planted on those sharp turns and high speed manuvers I pull.

Wearing a seat belt will always be that semi rebellous thing like not eating vegtables, smoking when your 17 or using words that are longer than four letters.

Good reminder. In AR the “Click it or ticket” program will start up again on Wednesday. I hated how those automatic belts rubbed on my neck!
