Rally Review: Sardinia 2008

The Rally D’Italia Sardegna is based on the Island of Sardinina off the west coast of Italy. It’s gravel stages are some of the narrowest on the circuit, and there isn’t room for mistakes. After 17 stages and 345 grueling kilometers, there were a scant 15 seconds separating the top three contenders. Sebastien Loeb was on top, with the Fords of Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala nipping at his back bumper. It was a momentous occasion of four time WRC Champion; not only was he able to keep the "Flying Finns" at bay, but in taking the checkered flag, he achieved his 40th career victory, which no previous rally driver had ever achieved.

Christ Atkinson was the only remaining Subaru left in the top eight, as Petter "Hollywood" Solberg had a weekend he’d rather not remember. On the second day, he claimed the car was undriveable, and half way through the second stage his hood flew up, breaking  his windshield. To top it off, he suffered a puncture, and without the anti-deflation mousse, he lost valuable seconds. Needles to say, Hollywood can’t wait for to get behind the wheel of his new Impreza. That’s it from Italy, stay tuned next week for the Acropolis Rally
