All the Dirt on the McLaren/Ferrari Scandal

By John Coyle

Editor

Last year, when McLaren’s F1 team was found with technical documents relating to arch-rival Ferrari’s program, the news ripped through the F1 world like an atomic blast through a wall of tissue paper. And while I read lots of news reports of the unfolding drama, this Wired article is the most comprehensive account of the big delicious mess that I’ve encountered. This story has everything—love, jealousy, betrayal, even extraordinarily perverted sex—and I think it would make a dope movie. Head over and check it out.

I knew about this when it happened I dont know why their is articles about it now…. and nascar is a joke.. to people who actually enjoy racing and not turing left 800 times a race “200×4=800″ the oval has 4 turns lol …and McLaren was penalized the amount because they actually used some of the items. ferrari probably had more time and money into then the development of their chassis and so on. To say politics was favored over the race is true but to me it was fair to take driver/team points away.if you look at the ferraris last year they had a cover over the rim”dont know what it is called” ferrari has them on the wheels in the picture at the top, but mclaren started using them later in the season .. now most teams this year use them..and race setups where in the papers that mclaren got a hold of, so the race strategys they had were superior then ferraris.. DONT say f1 sucks ” cuz you SUCK”

I like local track racing. Especially the 4cyl. poor people class.

Sorry for upsetting you anti-cheeseburger, caviar only types.

One comment I would like to bring to people’s attention is that Renault’s penalty for acquiring McLaren technical data was nowhere near as stiff. McLaren was penalized so excessively because they stole FERRARI’s information.
The whole situation amounts to politics, not racing. Fairness in the interest of the sport is not equally applied.

About the situation though, I just think it’s funny that the wife of the Chief Designer of McLaren’s Racing Team doesn’t have her own bad ass copier-scanner machine that could have prevented this from happening. All that money they have and she took it to a Michael Schumacher enthusiast to get it copied! Hehe, I’m glad they got caught! If not for theft, at least for stupidity!

Vince, Mike, chill dudes! Although I heavily disagree with cknarf, if Nascar wasn’t one of the most competitive and driver-difficult racing circuits in the world then their wouldn’t be people leaving F1 and the Indy Series to go race in it. I think it was best described by the host of Fifth Gear, who said F1 Racing is like 80% Technology – 20% Driver skill, where Nascar is 20% Technology – 80% Driver Skill. Now personally I would pick F1 any day over Nascar as I’m sure you guys would, but there must be something about driving a Nascar that grabs a hold of you! I mean, watching it, sure ain’t all that. But 400 Laps of bumper to bumper action, who wouldn’t want to do that!

I am not a huge watcher of F1 but every time i do get the chance i just get sucked into it. I never had any idea that all this spy junk was going on. Hope McLaren gets whats coming to them.

nascar sucks Formula 1 is the richest sport in the world even richer then football(soccer), it’s a proven fact so go watch a piece of crap go in a oval for 500 laps! When nascar goes to Monaco,Spain,Italy,Japan and have 200,000 people NOT DRUNK and enjoying “The beautiful race” come flap your gums!Anyway getting to this article it was a long time coming before McLaren was punished for all the stuff they had did over the years and it bit them in th a**,Ferrari is one of the best teams in Formula 1!
