This Just In: New on the Net

This weekend, CarDomain sent me to Indianapolis for the 500, and I had a blast. So I have to admit I thought it was kind of funny that not one writer—not a single one—from AOL’s Autoblog even bothered to watch the race. And from the tone of this post, they apparently think that’s something to brag about. Bravo guys! Now Jen and I know why credential folks at major tracks roll their eyes when they hear the word "website." Here’s the news:

  • Citigroup analysts are saying that America’s auto industry is facing "perfect storm conditions," and is not recommending folks buy stock in the General. As a result, GM’s stock dropped to a 26-year low. Automotive News
  • For years, Rolls-Royce and Bentley were essentially the same cars, but now that the marques are separately owned, they’re having to complete in the same segment, and Rolls is reportedly looking to make something akin to the sporty Continental GT. AutoWeek
  • In response to the fact that the American greenback has been doing the backstroke in the toilet lately, BMW is going to raise its prices. The move makes sense, but that probably doesn’t provide much solace to fans of German iron. Autoblog
  • Given the problems at the Blue Oval, Mercury dealers are justifiably nervous about their future. The question which should make them super-nervous? Just who would notice if the brand went away? Detroit News
  • Is it time for the United States to cut the crap, and launch a Manhattan-style project to address fuel-prices? At least one gearhead thinks so. Automotive Traveler
