Tundra or Silverado: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
We’ve have two full size truck Showroom Showdowns (Ram vs F150 and Ram vs. Titan) and the Ram won both. So this showdown will determine which truck we put up against the mighty Dodge in the final round. The Tundra hasn’t gotten a lot of good press recently, and Silverados outnumber Tundras 10 to 1 on CarDomain, so I’m assuming this may be a lopsided contest. But let’s give it a try anyway. So, which would you choose, the Tundra or the Silverado?
A note on the photos. I’ve been trying to use photos from the manufacturer’s sites. Chevy mostly had glam shots of their 4×4 trucks and Toyota had grittier "work" shots of their 4 x 2 trucks. But for the purpose of this showdown, assume you are comparing two similarly priced and equipped trucks.

if you want a real truck its gotta be a ford, dodge, or chevy. how many tundras or titans do you see with a fifth wheel pulling a goose neck, NONE because they cant do it. i am chevy all the way but if you like ford or dodge trucks there is nothing wrong wit that. they each have pros and cons

GM and Ford are the only American Automakers left today since Dodge got bought by Chrysler which got bought by Mercedez…
and out of those two GM is a much better company
heres how i can get you to admit it…
if one of these two cars was yours for the taking for free..which would you take?
a 08 Navigator? or 08 Escalade?
99.9% of the ppl i ask that say escalade…even the people who own navigators say that they just couldnt afford one so they settled for less.
Ford is the most bought in the U.S
but GM is the most bought in the WORLD
http://blogs.motortrend.com/6227127/corporate/the-worlds-largest-automaker-is/index.html
heres the link for you faggots who dont believe me..
When GM produced a V16 in a prototype vehicle called the Sixteen
the Prince of Saudi Arabia SHIT his pant and offered 10 Million for it..GM said NO…lol
with 10 million you can buy a 9 Bugatti Veyron’s
(Current Fastest Car in the world)
Rams have the worst gas mileage right now and are still the heaviest trucks..
Tundras are comfortable, powerful, and safe but 6 months after the release they were already having recalls about the suspension…and i agree with some ppl..just too big and ugly
Fords are so cheaply made id rather have a Tacoma..
Silverados are my choice..Best Gas Mileage in its class and no other truck has won more OFFICIAL Truck Of The Year awards than The Chevrolet Silverado..
so all you haters can Get Tea Bagged and Dick Slapped with my Sweaty Balls all day cause MAN ITS HOTT IN CALI…

Dodge, but if I had to chose between these to I would go with the Yota. The Silverados dont have the mean look anymore, and they seem to be getting lower and lower to the ground. I have seen some nicely done up Tundras, and there not EVERYWHERE!! so its a nice change of view. It doesnt matter, Dodge is going to win the next show down whom ever it is pitted against

There is no way the new silverado can hang with a new tundra in any competition. Silverados are only still here for old men that dont know any better. I you give a damn and want a real truck though, you better go with the Tundra. 381hp and 401 ft/lbs of torque is nothing to joke about. Let chevy stay green and while Toyota and Dodge stay mean!!

silverado, seeing as how my father was looking at the new tundra, it was all good until the test drive were the truck died before it even left the toyota lot. one of the mechanics took it in “something in the motor let go ” he said. my father said “pos” fallowed by no thanks. he is the proud owner of a new gmc sierra

toyta tundra!!! i agree with rafe, just becuz all of you guys are loyal gm fans doesnt mean they are better, tundra with a bit smaller engine can still outpull any pickup anyday, and also, 381 and 403 ponys are not really a big difference. Toyota is new to the game of big trucks, how do you know they are not going to last longer? did you watch top gear about how they keeping to smash the truck and the truck is still running? watch youtube for the tundra pulling with other trucks and top gear about how they tryin to kill the toyota truck

The Toyota Tundra hands down. Toyota has officially taken over the pick up truck market. Just cant beat Toyotas quality and performance.

May 30, 2008 at 10:39 am
I would go with the new silverado. It comes from the factory with the Z71 package and the new rack and pinion suspension. And chevy offers a pretty decent warranty for those who will put the chevy to work. The only thing I like about tundras are the roomier, higher class interior and the ease of getting in it since it does sit about 4 inches lower. Chevy is getting better with interiors for the trucks but its taking a while. Tundra is more a comfort truck for those who do more work in it than with it while chevy is built to work with it not in it. But the only toyota i would buy would be the pick-up made in the late 80’s. I see more of those on the road than Tundras.

I’d definitely take the Chevy, but an even better choice is the GMC. I know most of you are gonna tell me that a Chevy and GMC are the same truck, but you’re wrong. Yes, they are very similiar, but the GMCs have way better interiors, and our Denali edition has a 6.2 liter 403 hoursepower V8!! I have yet to see any Chevy’s even optional with that engine, and it’s standard in the Sierra and Yukon Denali editions. But, between the Silverado and the Tundra, I’d still take the Chevy, but only by a slim margin. Toyotas are way more reliable than almost anything else on the road, but it seems to me they are getting uglier every time they redesign them. At least the Chevy’s still look descent. Not to offend any Toyota guys, but that’s how I feel. You have your opinions which I respect, and I have mine. The only other real big factor is ALL 5.3 liter Chevy and GMC engines now come with the variable displacement system, which means on the highway you can get up to 35mpg. Some say 40, but lets be realistic, that is a little out of reach for that engine. One more benefit, in about a year (maybe less) GM is unleashing a hybrid version of the full size pickups!!! I can’t wait.

The tundra is the best all the way. Ihave been driving toyotas for 15 years and i have never had a problem with them. especially the new tundras they look better than the raggedy ass silverados. and they also proform better. what more can you ask for with a 5.7 liter V8 with 381 horses. thats the best. forget the stupid ass siverados

I really like both trucks but I would have to say Chevy. The Chev looks better and from experience i know its a reliable truck and a blast to drive. Also it gets better fuel mileage then the Tundra but for people who buy trucks that doesn’t matter anyway and i’m one of those people!! Chevy all the way

wow, mike…gotta bad on you man. “you dont see old toyota pickups on the road?”
WHAT?!?! What are you SMOKING?!? i’m here in socal man and all those illegals drive is old toyota pickups. haha. why? cuz they LAST! just change the oil and regular maintenance and you’re good to go.
Chevy’s suck…plain and simple. I work with a a chevy dealer and they always have problems…and the toyota is a lot better build quality for the $$$. Chevy will win this comparison only bcuz of loyal chevy guys. toyota is going to be the no.1 vehicle producer in the WORLD. why? They’re just that much better.
So, my vote goes for the tundra. It’s changing the truck industry and keeping the other truck companies on their toes ^_^

Also, I think the vote thing is great. But how many people here know anything about either of these trucks? If I went with what my family said I would vote ford. Why? Because thats what they would drive. If I went off of personal oppinion I would vote Dodge. But if you get your facts. The Toyota, though still new therefore not as many options. Is BY FAR a Superior truck. And I am sure people are going to think I am a salesman, but I assure you I am not. I just study stupid things. I think it would be cool if we could get all the truck manufacturers to let you test them for yourself. Then lets see what wins. TUNDRA ALL THE WAY!!!! No I don’t own one, but I would like to.
Jeremy
May 29, 2008 at 4:28 pm
I would choose a Tundra way before a GM. I have driven both and though they both have their good and bad. The tundra is a much more sound truck. I would bet that over half of the people on this list have not even driven the tundra. They are incredible for just a 5.7 liter. The 0-60 is good and the 60-0 is great. These trucks are very safe and comfortable. I drove one from Rock Springs WY to Logan UT and at one time I was doing over 110MPH for about 10 minuets. It felt like I was doing 80. Handels great looks great. I would own one in a second. For the GM. One of my friends have one that is only two years old. Do they paint their interior? Because all that nice grey that was on the dash is flaking off and there are nice black spots showing threw. Are they to cheap to just mold the dash in the color that its going to be? Plus, whats with all the rattles? The seats are hard and hurt your back after sitting in them for awhile. His is wound up at 100MPH and it doesn’t stop worth shit. The new GMs look like ass but the ones just a few years back do look awesome. I like how GM has more engine choices were in the tundra you have a V6 a 4.7 and a 5.7 and thats it. But overall. The tundra kills for what I would own. And one more thing. We raced a 5.7 tundra 4X4 against a SS silverado and the tundra spanked it. all three times.
For what it's worth...

Silverado. My dad has a Tundra and , although he loves it, I miss the Ram. I haven’t driven a silverado, but it looks better than the Tundra. The front end of the Tundra looks bad ass, but the rest of it is just ugly. The Silverado looks better overall. I also don’t like driving the Tundra because of Toyota’s ‘active safety controls’ that take away from the experience. It just feels weird when you let off the gas and it feels like you just applied the brakes slightly. I hope the Silverado doesn’t have any of that stuff. I can drive just fine without computers thank you very much.

well, i am a GM tech, and the new chevy’s are complete wrecks. We have had 6 in our shop with less than 6,000 miles on them with trans fluid leaking from the front trans seal behind the torque converter. we have had 3 more that needed all new lifters, and 1 that needed new heads. all before there second oil change. Then we have customers come in with toyota tundras for oil changes, and we know of at least 12. We all ask them how there truck is. They haven’t had one warranty claim. No matter which way you add it up, my faith is lost in the old bow-tie. I vote the TUNDRA.

By the way, I saw a short-bed Silverado the other day. It looked sweet . . . sort of like as close as you can come to an El Camino these days.

Silverado all the way. Those ToyAuto trucks are pure plastic junk, with loads of recalls and quality-ctrl issues. Plus those smug ads they run during the NASCAR races are annoying as hell.

Tundra. Strongest V8 engine, it gets going faster, tows more, and stops quicker then any other half ton pickup. New models always have kinks to work out, all other half tons including chevy has had or does have problems when a new design comes out.

Silverado. You know exactly what your getting with the Chevy. The new Toyota has proven to be everything but reliable so far. Plus it’s a good ol’ Chevy, thats gotta count for something.
