Kids These Days: Cars That Teens Want, According to Forbes

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Everyone knows that kids these days are just so sensible and pragmatic, and not at all deserving of the bad rap they always get in the popular culture. Forbes Autos reports on the top ten cars most wanted by "teens," and the majority of them are relatively fuel efficient and priced under $20K. Here’s the breakdown:

1. Ford Mustang
2. Honda Civic
3. Honda Accord
4. VW New Beetle
5. Toyota Camry
6. Toyota Corolla
7. Tie between Chevy Impala and Ford Focus
8. Tie between Jeep Wrangler and Ford F-150
9. Dodge Charger
10. VW Jetta

I’m not very able to relate to the idea of parents buying their kid a car, which is what I assume is happening in most cases where adolescents are driving anything brand-new. And the fact that the kids surveyed only seem to want late-model rides (at least according to the slide show) strikes me as a little strange. I spent my early teens thinking the ’57 Chevy Bel Air was the end-all-be-all, then moved into Studebakers before inheriting my first (and then over a decade old) Ford Escort. Admittedly, my tastes were and continue to be pretty weird. But how about you? What car did you want when you were a teenager? And if you’re in your teens now, what ride are you saving (or begging) for?

I dont believe this list..
But thats because I live in a hick town. But I love older cars/trucks. Im fifteen and i have an ’84 ford bronco that im fixing up before I drive. I was going to get a muscle car because I love them but that can still come later. Basically I wouldn’t even want a brand new vehicle. I have pride in paying for my own truck and older vehicles have more style anyway.

my dream car is and always will be a 69 charger, my year of birth.
it could have a little to do with a particular 80′s tv show.

but talking affordable cars i always loved the 94-96 civic coupe in camilla red pearl since the day it came out, so that’s what i’ve been driving for ten years now and still loving it :)

Mustangs are so over done. They are cheap performance cars. But if you found a 1987 Corolla AE86 model in town that is sweet.

Even before I could drive let alone reach the pedals I always wanted a Dodge Viper. And still do!!!!!!

if you click on my profile you will see what my first car is, im now 19 and still own, love and respect my car, 99% of my firends didnt pay for their cars or even their insurance, i think becasue i bought all of my car along with EVERYTHING that is on/in it i have a better respect and dont abuse it like my friends do becasue they know if something heppens mommy and daddy will bail them out

which also makes me think that if you did another one of these with kids who have to buy their own things you;ll see the cars change along with the years they want lol

Uhh no buddy the Mustang takes first! A Honda? Haha. Get out of here. Mustang always will!!! That is all i will ever drive and there are more Mustangs in my school parking lot than anything else. That is one thing that will never change. Mustangs are and always will be the most popular sports car.

I wanted a ford focus after I saw the Rally team in Europe. I didn’t have one until my 2 1/2 year mark in the USMC. Now it’s been 7 years since I’ve had mine, and done plenty of mods. And continuing on, Im still working on it!

Wow, what is wrong with people anymore?
I’m personally a fan of old muscle.
Dream car list would be
1.) ’70 Dodge Challenger R/T
2.) Hemi Cuda
3.) ’67 Mustang
4.) ’66 Shelby Cobra
5.) ’67 Camaro
etc.

The car I drive now isn’t necessarily ‘american muscle’, as it is a Supercharged 3.8L (see my rides page), but it hangs with, if not destroys alot of the Mustangs and other cars that are now considered ‘american muscle’

I started out with a F150, worked my way to an F250, and bought myself a nice mustang GT convertible last year for myself for my 18th birthday. Honestly I feel everyone should have to work for what they get like I have, The thing that you have to know is to buy cash, that way you don’t owe anything. The next cars I’m working towards is…
2006 Ford GT,
1970 Mach 1 Mustang
2007 Koenigsegg CCX
And many more, but that is just for starters.

I went to highschool in a large innercity district so the king of cars at my school was different than most you guys. I seen that when i bought a house in the suburbs the kids drove different kinda of cars(no one at my school drove import tuners or brand new cars). so iguess they only asked upper middle class high school students and probably girls ie the beetle on the list. heres my list that probably represents the students of today that went to a school like mine.

1. 96 Impala SS
2. 80′s Monte carlo SS
3. Any rwd cutlass 442
4. 92-96 caprice
5. 77-91 caprice
6. 72-76 caprice
7. rwd olds delta 88
8. dodge charger(current)
9. chrysler 300 (current)
10. tahoe (any year)

C5 (1997-2004 Corvette), preferably a manual, but an auto would be fine by all means I would drive it. I wouldn’t care if it had HIGH miles like 200,000+, I don’t care, they’re just an awsome car that is EXTREMLEY sexy. The other is a C2 but I know my parents can’t afford a car that $40,000 for a good project for themselves let alone for me.

i jus graduated from high school c/o 08 and my first car is a 1984 chevy steel body silverado 1500 its the most awesomeest thing in the world but i’ve always loved the classics so maybe the new teens are’t capable of handling a the project rides and scared to get their hands dirty

I will be 16 in January but I’m looking at either a 93′ or 95′ Nissan 240SX. I was looking at buying a Mustang at first but they don’t have as much potential. Mustangs are harder to drift than a 240SX.

I am 17 and I wouldn’t want any of the cars that are on that list. I don’t see why the cheap little Hondas and Toyotas are topping the list, what is with everyone’s taste these days? I’ve been driving for almost two years now, and have never had a “NEW” car, nor do I care to have one. The cars I’ve had so far have been:

-1993 Buick Park Avenue
-1996 Cadillac Sedan DeVille
-1998 Volvo v70
-1997 Cadillac Catera < -current (see profile)

All of which have been in mint/like-new condition which is fine with me. Advice I have for new drivers is to buy used cars and know the people you buy them from so that you know how the car has been taken care of.

I live in Japan, so I had a different story…

Everyone in Japan wants a Skyline, and dammit me too. The first car I bought was a thrashed and damaged Skyline ER34 25GT-T. Then I sold that for nest egg money and when I turned 19 I invested into a ’94 Integra Type R. I crashed that, and bought a 4-door Skyline HCR32 GTE and swapped out motor for an RB-25DE. Just before I turned 20 I sold THAT skyline and bought my Tommy Kaira edition Skyline BNR32 GT-R.

God damn, I spend a LOT of money on cars…

I’m 18, and I live in Ontario.

First Vehicle – 1984 GMC Sierra 1500 – Blew the engine
Second Vehicle – 1992 Toyota Tercel DX – Totalled
Third Vehicle – 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ – Traded for Accord
Current Vehicle – 1990 Honda Accord EX-R

As soon as I graduate in 2 weeks, I’ll be taking the next year off and saving for a new car..1987/1988 IROC-Z Camaro Convertible..preferably 5 spd manual but will settle for auto..that should run me somewhere around $8-10 G’s Canadian

My parents have loaned me the money for every vehicle that I have bought, and I have paid it back in full. I think that’s usually how things go nowadays.

i’m 20, will be 21 shortly.. my first car was a 98 Intrepid, when i was 16, paid for by myself. The motor was junk and blew up, so i got rid of it and got a 95 Nissan 240sx SE. I did a few mods like exhaust, rims, intake, and header.. I paid for everything except the bodykit, which i receieved as a graduation present. My friend offered to buy the car off me so on insticnt, I sold it, and actually regret getting rid of it. Now, I roll a 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege and love it. I am making the payments on it myself, with no help anywhere. Got a few things done to this as well as saving up for a nice upgrade shortly.

I’m 17 and I wouldn’t want any of those cars as a “dream car” at all. If I had to pick one I’d go for the charger or the impala. But any I got myself a 97 camaro that I love, it may not be a classic but it’s sure as hell better than any other car on that list. My list is as follows:
1: 57′ Corvette
2: 67′ Camaro RS
3: 77′ Camaro Z28
4: 09′ Corvette ZR1(never gonna happen..)
5: 69′ Charger R/T
There are so many more then that, but you get the point..I love muscle.

I would personally only drvie the Dodge Charger and maybe the Mustang. I’m 16 and I already have my dream car(that I bought with my own cash, tha I earned), a 1971 Plymouth Satellite/Roadrunner, my next car that I’m getting is a 2004 Potniac GTO that I am saving for even as I am building the Plymouth.

I am 16 and am buying my own car. I am looking at buying a First Gen DSM probably 2 litre non-turbo. It makes me sick that most of my friends are having their parents buy them their first car. I think that if you work for it and pay for it with your own money that you will take better care of it and apreiciate it more than if it is bought for you.

Jun 1, 2008 at 3:39 pm

I am only 16, and will not have my full liscence until mid-July. I do agree with this list, people my age are spolied idiots who work for nothing and have whatever they want handed to them, and whatever they want ususally is a POS import or a 4-cylinder domestic. About 70% of the student drivers at my school are driving 90′s Neons or their parents car/a car bought for them by their parents. I know of only a few who have bought their own car. Also, teenage car enthusiasts are still here. I myself drive a ’77 Monte Carlo that me and my dad purcahsed together as a project (mind you I paid about $2000 into it). Also, a friend of mine drives a ’74 T/A w/ a 305 that he purchased himself. Another friend of mine drives a ’81 Camaro that is a rusted pile of crap, but atleast it’s somewhat of a muscle car that he bought himself. This article makes me sick to know that other people just like me are being idiots and want something like a VW New Beetle for god sakes. Just makes me sick.

I think it has more to do with the younger generation being part of the disposable buying trend. Buy a plasma 42″ TV last year, “oh damn now there is a great 60″ lcd that I just have to have.” So many see cars the same way. Having a new car, even a sensible one is more of a status symbol among peers.

“So yea i’m 16 and some of the kids these days are just plain gay but i disagree in the honda civic. I drive a 04 Honda civic Si that i’ve put about 10,000 dollars into. And just to tell ya ajsofresh my civic will run alll over ur z28 and it’ll get you all the girls you want. Right now i’ve got a Rev Hard Bolt on turbo, AEM EMS, DC 4-2-1 Headers, Neuspeed Cat-Back Exhaust, AEM Fuel Rail, N-tercooler Air Cooler, Skunk 2 throttle body, Buddy club racing spec camshaft, and im tired of naming stuff but don’t under estimate a civic cause i run a 6.8 at our 1/8 mile dragstrip.”
Put $10,000 into a z28 and then get back to us. Oh and btw, you don’t run a 6.8 1/8th mile with basic mods like that. Sorry, get to the track and run it before you run you mouth.

kids of todays age are so lucky. parents are willing to get out their wallet/purde just to make their kids happy, yet let themselves fall in debt. im 15 and most everything i do i have to earn myself. but since my family is in the military we have moved to Japan and i get to use my parents’ car which is a 1995 Nissan Gloria(not sold in U.S.). its the only car we have unless i buy my own which i actually might. the car that im savin up for at the moment is a mid 90′s Toyota Crown(also not sold in Japan) which is the main contender towards the Nissan. But once we get back to the U.S.(sometime between 2010-2013) i get my moms Saturn Vue which we bought new back in 2005. yeah yeah Saturns suck but i love ‘em, im the Saturn type. it is an awsome SUV and it does have the Redline package so i hope to keep it until the sun melts the plastic body panels. i just can’t belive how disconnected families are that parents think they have to buy their kids new things just to make them happy, its just crazy and stupid. families need to connect together and parents have to teach their kids how the life will be and have them buy their own car. the only car that blips on my radar is the VW Jetta wich i have a fancy for.

Jun 1, 2008 at 8:08 am

the only good cars on that list would be the charger or mustang or impala but thats it i too im sick of these little punks and their honda civics thinking theyre driving the best car on the road which is why i drive a 96 chevrolet impala, 5.7L V8 and stop complainng about gas prices we have like the cheapes gas here in north america u should see what the gas prices are in europe!!

I don’t know about this generation. I’m so sick of punks with Honda Civics or Integras or Ford Probes whatever, who go down to Advanced Auto and buy a couple APC and Street Glow stickers, a bolt on wing, some seat and petal covers and boom! They think they’re cars are faster than shit, oh and you cant forget the fart can. All I know is I have 1961 Buick I’m restoring and I love that car. It’s big, it’s American, it’s a V8 and it gets shit gas mileage, just the way I like it.

I wanted a ’96 Lincoln Town Car like my grandmas, but my parents have the “American cars are crap” attitude, so they wanted me to get a Toyota or a Honda. I eventually convinced them to let me buy a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis with 7600 miles on it and $5,000 under value and with the rest of the warranty on it. It’s red just like my grandma’s Town Car. i’m 17 i’m saving to buy a trans am from my boss for $3500, i work as a apprentice mechanic for him. i’m basically not getting paid in order to own this car, but it’ll all be worth it when i’m driving home in that trans am. btw that list is horrible where i live honda civics & accords are “me too” cars “hey i got a civic” “yeah me too” its rediculous, toyota & vw are just crappy cars all around not to mention ugly, the remaining 5 i wouldnt mind having if i had not choice, but it definately wouldn’t be my 1st choice the mustang and charger are all right as long as they’re the earlier models.

at 14 I wanted a ’66-’74 mopar A,B, or E body with a big block, I would have settled for a smaller engine, but it turns out I didn’t have to. At 15, I bought my ’73 charger with a 440. I’m 19 now, but when I was in high school, my car was the coolest in the parking lot. One of my buddies has a ’69 Mustang Mach 1, but he never drove that to school. There are still a lot of kids who think going fast is important, but there are even more who want the 4 bangers thinking they’re fast

At 15 i wanted a 60′s or 70′s muscle car and got a 72 GS at 16. im 18 now and still have it but would love to also have an old chevelle, nova, stang, anything cool like that, not a honda civic.

4. 94′-05′ Dodge Ram 4×4
5. 88′-08′ Chevy Silverado 4×4

Im 19 and was given a ’02 Cavalier with only 40k miles at age 16. I still have that car, done up a bit just so it doesn’t look to stock. Im hopefully getting an ’08 xB soon, pretty good gas mileage and it can fit all my 6’0ft+ 200lb+ friends a little better then my cavalier can.

that “tariq” kid deserves a punch in the mouth for making the rest of us teens look bad. he has no sense of realism in the cars he likes or wants. the cool cars at my school right now are a couple 2000+ cavalier z24′s, a 94 grand am 2 door, and a 98ish ranger done up a bit. and yes we have plenty of rice burners :(

I’m just barely turning 16 and i have a 1992 Ford F-150 ‘Flareside’ 2wd, with a 302, 5 speed, 3.73 rear end, and dual 3” exhaust from the cat with Flowmaster 40 series. It also has a K&N filter. I got the truck and it already had the rear end in it from the previous owner. The truck had been parked for about 6 years and I got a good deal on it (considering the little work it needed I could do my self), she needed brake work, an oil pan, and an alternator, my dad and I have done all the work in the drive way basically and I can’t wait to get it on the road next year. *on PEI, Canada you gotta be 17 to get your license* , until then I’m gonna getter running and looking exactly how I want it! Future considerations are to maybe lower it a tad, a rear roll pan with the exhaust running out it, and I’m thinking hard on some headers. I don’t know why anyone would want a new vehicle for a first rig, you can’t afford to do anything with it but drive it, and honestly whats the fun in that! if I couldn’t be able to make my rig look different then someone else’s even slightly I wouldn’t be satisfied! With all the sensor in new cars today too it’s hardly safe to fiddle with anything just about anywhere, I’m scared to touch the air box on my brother’s girlfriend’s mustang hahaha.

Im 16 and i drive an 06 G6 GTP coupe 6m. that took some work to talk my parents into. they were looking at sentras. not even the spec Vs, just the regular sentras.
anyway, i think i can shed some light on this one. My circle of friends is the one of two in the school that gives a shit about their cars or has a car with a manual, and that only fits the description of about a third of us.
ex. my friend TJ got a WRX. i was talkin to my friend NOT in the circle, “hey, have u seen tjs new wrx?” “whats that”
also, people have no respect for each others stuff anymore and people ding each others doors in the parking lot and dont leave a note, bumper tap and leave a huge scratch and drive away, etc. so they dont want that shit to happen to a nice car

I’m 15 and my K10 pickup is my dream car. It’s funny, all the kids I know who drive in my town all have muscle cars and souped up 4x4s, none of the rides listed. I just want to know what kind of teen wants a VW beetle or a corolla, no offense to VW or Toyota. Check out my truck under Chevyboy4.

yea this is a shit list, i know there aren’t a lot of car fanatics out there but this list sucks. If it was me, which I’m 19 i’d rather have a camaro ss, mustang cobra, eclipse gsx, pontiac gto, evo, sti, or vw scirocco.

Metal
May 31, 2008 at 4:44 pm

That list is stupid. I know plenty of people who would rather have some nicer cars than shitty civics, mustangs, and the “New” VW Bug. Is this a list for girls? I mean, I’m not a big fan of the Scion tC, but why isn’t it on there? Or the xB? Those things are everywhere, driven by young people all the time. Hell, I would rather have an EVO or WRX than half of those cars.

I’m 16 and own a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, which I have paid for myself. Teaching me the value of earning the things I want. I have modified it with full exhaust, 3.4″ supercharger pulley, ECU and such as well as new wheels. I have always wanted a ’67 Mustang fastback, ’67 Camaro, or any year Corvette, and will hopefully be able to buy one of them someday.

My first car was my 67′ Mustang at age 15. I’m 30 now and still own the car that started the obsession. Cars are a great way to meet new people with the same interests, no matter the make or model. But in my opinion the Mustang will always be the car of choice for young and old alike.

My first car was a 1993 Chevy Cavalier with over 100,000 miles on it, and it meant the world to me. Shit I was just glad to have a car. I got it my senior year in high school. All my other friends already had cars…………BECAUSE I USED TO RIDE WITH THEM. To get any of those cars on that list brand new or used would have probably made me pass out from excitement. Everyone isn’t so fortunate but once again, I was very thankful. As a teen, all I wanted was either a bad mustang, firebird, or camaro. They were and still are the ass rapers around here. When I turned 24, I purchased my first car and it turned out to be a mustang and I have been on cloud nine since.

Jason
May 31, 2008 at 6:37 am

That list sucks. I bet the mustang they want is only a v6. My first vehicle at age 15 was a ford ranger that i lifted and got horrible gas milage but it was awesome. My new truck at age 18 is a Ram 1500 with the 318. Its all about displacement. Large amounts of displacement.

May 31, 2008 at 4:32 am

I think the list is closer to things the children think their parents can afford to buy but who am i to say I would take any as a first car as long as it ran. As far as parents giving kids cars its ok as i first i believe. I 19 and heres my current list. Parents only bought first for 700

1985 camaro z28
2000 suzuki esteem
1999 taurus
2002 dakota sport (fucking beast on the strip)V8 magnum

May 30, 2008 at 1:05 am

I’m 20, I drive a crappy 93 grand am that always breaks, I bought it for $600 because I needed a car. I hate it, its ugly as sin and its embarrasing to drive, but it gets me where I have to go and its fairly good on gas. That being said, every car on the list blows HARD. The only thing remotely good on the list is the new mustang. My list would include, 68-70 chargers, 70-71 challengers, 68-72 chevelles, camaros, boss mustangs, you know, the good stuff.

My first car was an 89 Escort LX 4 door with a 5 speed. Got it for 650 bucks. I wanted a 57 Chevy like you would not believe, but even a very rough one was well out of my price range. I tried to get an old Willy’s Jeep, but that was too much work for me.

I’m 17 and my first car was a 88 Cherokee Laredo 4 Liter. My dad bought it on my 17th birthday for $1000. Unfortunately for him it cost $6000 dollars in repairs over the 6 months I had it. Now I’m onto a 2007 Red G6 V6 Sedan that I got used with 35k for grad. The 5 summer months I’m working I pay the monthly payments of 280$ and I also pay for my gas full year round. My parents pay for the other 7 months of payments and my insurance.

I currently have a 2004 Toyota Corolla LE, that my parents bought… but I have always wanted a 97-03 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP or even just a GT. I like alot of cars though, probably considered weird or boring. But I don’t care… I am looking for another car now once I sell my Corolla. I have been finding some nice late nineties BMWs, but haven’t found the right car just yet…

How was this poll taken? Who did they ask? Teenage girls or guys? And – if guys – were they enthusiasts or nerds? I’m really surprised to see the Honda Accord in third place. The Honda Accord? Good grief(!). Hopefully at least they meant the coupe and not the sedan. No wait, these kids desire the Accord over the S2000? What’s happened to today’s teenagers? They’ve become a bunch of wussies.

I inherited my dad’s 88 Camry when I got my license (and he eventually got a new car). When it got stolen I already had the Volvo 1800E that I wanted all picked out… unfortunately they found the (almost destroyed) camry so I never got the car I really wanted.

being a teen, this list strikes me as a little weird. I guess that’s just because around here most of the guys want trucks. But then again we dont live in the city and most of us hunt/fish or do something that requires a truck. Oh and about the parents buying their kids new rides, that is usually the case, but believe it or not i have a few friends who have been saving up and bought either a brand new or a few month old ride on their own. My parents bought mine, but that was after got a big enough scholarship to save them a bunch of money on college.

Back in 1989, my first car was an ’81 Fiat X1/9. After it was totaled 2 years later, I bought a 66 Mustang(I always wanted a classic Mustang).
From there, I’ve had:
- 3 S10 pickups
- ’81 Honda Accord
- ’95 Civic
- ’89 Prelude 4WS
- ’90 Cherokee (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2576056)
- ’94 Corvette
- ’00 Durango (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2575944)
- ’04 Mazda6(My first and probably last NEW car.)

My first was a 1992 GMC Jimmy ST that I “annexed” off my dad (after he bought a 1995 Chevy S-10 Blazer LS 2-door), then in April of 07, I traded it in (got more than I should have out of it to, it still looked nice but it was a P.O.S., always something wrong with it, especially the front drivers side door, i.e. it didn’t close all the way) to get what I’ve got now.

Go Geoff.

I’m 18 currently, and I have to pay for everything I do. And I still don’t have a car(maybe i should lay off the super skunk).

If there’s one thing that really “grinds my gears”, it’s seeing a brand new Mercedes parked in the school parking lot.

I guess mommy and daddy pay for insurance for them, too.

Devo
May 29, 2008 at 6:42 am

As a teenager (18), I can say none of those cars would even be considered in my list of most wanted vehicles. Always wanted a muscle car, not that that’s too realistic with the gas prices. Definitly a fan of the skylines and a few other imports.

Anyways all the cars in that list are cars I see countless times on my short commute to work and back. I would much rather have something eye catching that you don’t see so often.

And also I think it’s really stupid that all these teens are driving these boring brand new cars. My friend who works at a grocery store, not exectly a high paying position, decided he could afford a 08 focus, what’s the point? You can pick up an older car for a fraction of the cost, swap in a brand new crate motor, buy some nice wheels, and still be uder the cost of buying a new car!
It drives me nuts!

Plus your never going to be able to pick up chicks in a focus ;) well not stock anyways…

I remember that the car I really wanted was an 88 chevy iroc camaro black colored with either black or grey interior. But since my insurance would be crazy I had to settle for a 88 pontiac grand prix I loved that car.To bad some girl ran a stop sign while jerking off her man and totaled my car. :(

Dodge Viper! But in reality, I would have loved to get a 80′s Camaro or fox body Mustang. I was also obsessed with a neighbors 72 Chevy Step Side.

BTW, I ended up with a 97 Chevy Lumina as my first car. Paid for it myself and it was clean… and boring!

I was really in VWs when it came to buying my first car. I saved up enough money and bought myself a 66 VW Bug. It was a great first car, but I nearly managed to kill myself a few times when I pushed it to far.

I’m a teenager but I’ve always dreamt of having a car from the 60′s to 80′s and thanks to my parents My dream came true! I’d rather an older car/truck cause theres more you can do to them plus they look better and theres usually not many of the same model around.

I’m 17, my first car was an automatic ’99 Honda Civic EX coupe, I saved up $5000 to buy it. After a year I decided to sell it and was able to buy a ’00 Honda Civic Si in excellent condition. Even tho I lost some money in the process it was definitely a decision I haven’t regretted.

Danny
May 29, 2008 at 2:22 am

Well I’m 17 and I’ve bought myself every car I’ve owned besides my first, I’ve had a bunch of cars and here’s where the list:
-
01 Dodge Stratus
-
04 Dodge Stratus
-
2002 Mercury Sable
-
2002 Pontiac Grand Prix
-
1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
-
2005 Pontiac Grand Prix
-
2007 Dodge Charger R/T
-
I’ve had a lot of cars within’ the past year and the Charger was the first I ever wanted and by the time I could afford it gas flew up and my transmission went out (twice) so no I’m looking for an 04-08 Grand Prix in White and I think I’m gonna stick to that one, but I don’t like how people think just because your young and you have a nice car that your parents bought you it.

GTwildfire
May 29, 2008 at 2:18 am

When I was a teen, I wanted a muscle car. I didn’t narrow it down beyond that, but I preferred something from GM over all else, mainly a Camaro or Firebird.
-
My first car ended up being a ’77 Datsun 200SX given to me by my sister. It was faded yellow with a three-tone, wide, age-cracked brown stripe around the body. It was dubbed the “black banana” by my friends.
-
When I was 21 in 1986, I got the car I wanted as a teenager, a 1974 Formula 400 Firebird with a 400 Turbo trans, shift kit, factory Ram Air and an Alpine stereo.
-
Over the years I wanted to get another someday, and last summer I had the chance. No regrets at all with either one.
