User Error: Or, Why Audis Are Always So Expensive To Fix
By Jen Dunnaway

CarScoop found this discussion on Audi Forums in which a member by the name of Powrd1.8 supposedly decided to try a DIY port-and-polish that involved dumping a 25-pound bag of sandblasting sand into his intake—while the car was running. (You’ve gotta read the guy’s original post on this—it’s just priceless). The results were as expected—after going through about half the bag, the motor started kicking and bucking and sounding "really weird"—and the Audi people on the forum are completely beside themselves. They ultimately agreed that it had to be a hoax, but in the meantime they’ve been giving the guy some pretty stellar advice to address his problems, such as:
"Better add some water to the crank case to thin some of that sand out first."
"Sand is like synthetic oil. Once you start using sand, you just can’t get the same performance any more from pure filtered air."
and
"Don’t reproduce."
If it’s a joke, it’s a good one. Though it’s kind of hard to believe that someone would actually try anything this dumb. Heard of any similar gaffes?

What a great thread – my favorite part has got to be down the comment thread where the guy says “I thought it would be cool to paint the inside of my engine so I went to home depot and got a gallon of paint and put my intake in it. I had to mash the gas to the floor so the engine would run. My turbo didn’t spool but i think it’s broken because it’s covered in paint. My engine won’t start now and my exhaust has paint in it. What should I do? Also I ran out of motor oil so I filled the crank case with fudge. Is this ok? It looks the same. Can I drive the car?”
