2009 Maxima Begins Production. Do You Still Hate It?
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Those new Maximas that you guys love to hate started rolling off the assembly line at Nissan’s Tennessee plant earlier this week. A lot of new cars look pretty non-descript, but the "aggressive-looking exterior" of this one seems to bring out an unexpectedly polarized reaction. Sure, it’s got a 290 hp V6, but one of you made the argument that "speed means nothing in a butt as[s] ugly car," and many of you railed against its looks during the showroom showdown. Really? On general principle, which would you rather have: an ugly car that leaves comparable commuters in the dust, or an inoffensive-looking powder puff?

Looks like a Volvo! I could go either way with the headlights. If the price is right, the 290hp is going to be the selling point for this car! I still think the Toyotas and Hondas will do better.
Is it just me or are the body styles of the 2009′s (honda, toyota, nissan) getting ‘boxier’!!??

its a really nice car, but man those headlights do make me think twice about getting it. maybe custom headlights will be in the works?

Not my taste, but the HP figure is nice.

Hard to argue with 290 hp, but I still don’t like the headlights or the Infiniti QX4 grille.

I think it looks bad ass can’t wait to see it at my local dealer. Who knows I might trade my 03 maxima for a new one.

Sorry: just saw a picture with the headlight not partially covered by a banner…I don’t know whose idea it was to deform the headlight unit like that.

I think it looks great: they’ve taken the smartest looking features from the Lancer X and Volvo C30, to make a very nice car.
