Price of Steel Has Almost Doubled in Five Months
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Automotive News is reporting that the price of steel has almost doubled in five months, which is costing the OEMs approximately $500 more per vehicle. Yikes. That’s not just bad for new car buyers. I assume this means they will be crushing even more old beaters. Quick, everyone go out and save an old car from the crusher! Now! Source: Autoblog.

Back in November I paid $550.00 for 96 feet of 3″ x 3″ x 1/4″ structural tubeing for my truck. Just last week the same amount set me back $1200.00. Things look like they are going to get alot worse before they get any better.

the cars that have true worth as junkers aren’t chewed usually. Generally it’s the cars that are worth more as molten steel that are recycled.

Well economically speaking i wish they would crush and recycle more cars, even newer ones! It makes no sense to run out and save a K car, Im sorry but not all our country feels the same as some folks do here. Our country is hurting and its a good idea to recycle what we can right now, Im not an energy freak but there are some changes we should be doing in order to make our country a little more stable. Of course there are old cars that should be saved, but those are gonna be more desirable ones! some people need to pay cheaper prices for a new car so they can get to work everyday in something reliable, not 500.00 more, plus gas it makes us unstable at this point!
