What is Wrong With These People?

By John Coyle

Editor

Last Friday, while crossing a street in Hartford, Connecticut 78-year-old Angel Arce Torres was struck by a car. The driver who hit him fled the scene, but the most shocking thing about this incident was the total lack of response from the numerous witnesses. While the elderly man laid helpless in the middle of the street, no one came to his aid, and no motorists stopped. The people who did eventually venture  toward him seemed to regard the injured man as some kind of curiosity, and Torres remained where the car threw him until a passing police cruiser stopped to help. This is the kind of thing you imagine happening in a war zone, not the Capital City of an American state. What the hell is wrong with those people?  More info—including interviews with some of the assholes who stood by and did nothing—over at the Hartford Courant.

Granted no one stepped out into the street to wave off traffic or check the guy’s condition, but someone called 911 fast enough for the police to get there relatively fast.

And even if he was jay walking, as a motorist in a city, you have to know that there are idiots like that to watch out for and who the hell passes on a double yellow line?!

I think that town should be forced to change its name to HEARTLESS, CONNECTICUT.

Doesn’t suprise me, about a month ago as I was sitting at a red light I saw an elderly woman on the ground next to a bus stop across the intersection obviously trying to get back up but couldn’t…. well… there were about 4 people at the bus stop just watching her, no one went over and tried to help her until someone in a car pulled up and ran over to her and helped her up. So seeing this doesnt suprise me much, just reinforces the fact that people just dont give a shit about other people.

I cant believe no one helped or check the guy like right after theres just a body laying in the street and no one seams to care.

Why did he walk in front of those cars? Sure, the hit and run was horrible, but come on, streets are for cars. Try a crosswalk next time!

Makes me grateful that I don’t live in Connecticut where – obviously – people don’t give a shit about anyone but themselves(!).

People are too scared to get involved… they don’t wanna talk to the police, possibly go to court, maybe even get sued… everyone is paranoid about that. You see it with every thing from witnessing a simple car accident to people getting murdered. No one wants to get involved. Kinda scary…

I really don’t understand their actions, or inactions.
.
My wife and I are both nurses.
.
We would have immediately helped, but we have training…
.
I watched the video over and over.
.
Very sad.
.
I like to think of this instance of more the exception than
the rule……if not, we are all in trouble :(

WTF?!

wow, people these days, too freakin stupid to take action. Either worried about what people thing, I bet if this was a dog (or any animal) naturists and everyone would worry and go help the “poor” dog around.

I remember seeing a video where a Patrol flips over on the dunes, hundreds of Arabs flock to help, while the cameramen sit and laugh, the comments were worse, making fun of how every1 was running to help.

sorry about this but im just pissed off.
