eBay Find: How Low Can You Go?

By David

aka Highspeedhijinks

It’s getting harder and harder for me to find vehicles I consider original. We’ve all seen various crazy layered paint schemes and items from one car grafted to another. But in my opinion, this rat rod on eBay takes uniqueness to a whole new level. Sure, guys have chopped and sectioned before, but have you ever seen a car with 20 inches taken out of its height? It’s low enough now that the 22" Boyd Coddington rear wheels are mere centimeters away from being taller than the car itself! The only way they could make it drivable was to add air bags to raise it four inches from the ground—check out this video for a clip of them in action. My favorite item about the car has to be the ’50s-era Buick taillight which looks like an afterburner, but I’m not going to even bother to tell you how crazy the headlights are… just look for yourself.

That is sick. I’d still have the temptation to smooth out the brazing and shoot the car for a more finished look and basically de-ratrodize it, but it’s just insane and captivating as-is.

It’s gotta handle as well as anything on the road. The ride’s gotta be phenomenal for cornering, just gotta get used to the visibility issues, both from the driver’s perspective and the fact that it’s less than 3 feet tall.

I’m still trying to figure out what the driving position is like. It almost seems like he’d have to be laying on his back using a periscope and mirror to drive. I agree about the tail light though – that thing is fantastic!

Now I’ve seen some low Rods in my day but this thing takes the cake. Hows the front head lights. Imagine driving this thing, if that is all possible.
