Rally Driver Is Sorry
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
There’s some instances where "sorry" just doesn’t cut it. And since, after this wreck, a kid starts gearing up for some major wailing, I’m concerned that this might be one of those instances. But at least the driver says the word. Watch!

i dont really blame the driver at all, in rally racing its almost expected that theres going to be a crash, a wipeout or even just sliding too hard and throwing the back end into something, when watching a race like that, use some common sense and stay away from the road, just good no one got hurt thou because thta could have gone seriously wrong fast,
and well ya he did at least make an effort by saying sorry, not like they got pissed off and just drove away

I had a similar situation happen to myself when I was a kid… I was among a large group of spectaturs and the reason the crash happened was totaly our fault. It was a road rally like the one above on some old Logging roads in Michigan. There was a sound of an accident up the road and like a moth to a flame the observers went out in the road to look up and see what had happened.. Well the group didn’t think that other cars would be driving past the wreckage and still racing.. But, they were. one driver totalled his car to avoid the gaggle of people in the road. He almost lost his life, so he wouldn’t have taken out group of people. I think it’s okay to watch the race, but you have to be aware that 2500 pounds of vehichle could be driving at you at anytime.

oooh yeah. I’m wrong for wanting to AVOID having people injured or killed needlessly. It’s okay for people to stand right at the edge so they can get creamed in the incredibly, nearly totally unlikely chance someone loses control.

A douche is one who refuses to use his brain cells for something other than ballast.

The letter and spirit of what I said was that the area marked was located stupidly. It was too close to the road.
Yeah, Tony you’re right, you can’t eliminate the dangers, but with some common sense and even a moderate effort to keep people safe, a big difference can be made.
Would you think it’s OK for folks to crowd around the outside curves at a drifting event???? No space for double-standards here…

ahahahah that was awesome no offense to anybody but hey hes on a time attack for a rally stage he cant exactly stop and get out so its not his fault. i also think its not his fault on the fact the spectators were clearly to close to the tape line other words in harms way. i do hope those injured are okay and he did do a more honorable apology after the stage, but just the whole *sorry -door slams- an hee speeds off* was just great, again sorry if i offended anyone.

Atleast the Aussie driver had the courtesy to apologise. He obviously knew he didn’t hit somebody when he ran off the road, otherwise I’m sure he would of gotten out of the car and things would of been different. Good on him for saying sorry.
GT…by the look of the video, the areas are clearly marked. Rally stages in Australia can be hundreds of km’s long, same as other countries. It would be logistically impossible for event staff to monitor every spectator point of the course, and I’m sure there would of been plenty of signs indicating the dangers of a rally event…enter at your own risk type of thing.

I don’t think it’s the driver’s fault at all. How can rally drivers be expected not to crash, or when they do… manage to control the crash as to avoid people.
-
No… the people shouldn’t be in harm’s way in the first place.

As I’ve said before, people always observe rally races from the wrong places.
-
Spectator areas should be clearly marked, and in areas that are at least relatively safe. Those who go outside of those areas should be immediately returned to the spectator area or ejected from the event.
-
Anything less is completely irresponsible. NOBODY should be that close to the road.

I find this footage and any other like it disgraceful.
