Atlanta Speeders Now Face $12 "Fuel Surcharge" on Top of Fine
By John Coyle
Editor
After the local police department’s budget was decimated by rising fuel costs, the City Council in Holly Springs—an Atlanta suburb—decided to tack a $12 "fuel surcharge" on to every speeding ticket. Given how popular the fees are with airlines and cab companies, it was probably only a matter of time until some cops caught on to the idea, but $12 still seems a little steep. For that price, you should at least get to run for a little while. Do you think this new fee will catch on nation-wide?

Do you get points on your license for speeding in the US? Here in the UK they charge a couple of hundred pounds (over $400) for speeding, plus they put points on your license (too many points and you lose it: i.e. you can only speed 3 times), and it jacks up your insurance by a few more hundred quid per year.
I’d much rather pay $12 extra. XD
