900 Classic Cars Headed for the Crusher

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

It’s the same old story. Crazy old man hoards cars on his property, then dies. Weird family doesn’t want to deal with all the circling gearheads and sells off the lot to the scrap guys. If you look at the pics there are some rare and desirable cars here–Road Runners, Super Bees, Camaros, Impalas, Fairlanes, etc. This is especially upsetting to me cause a puke green Road Runner like the one below is pretty much my dream car, and this one is probably gonna be turned into five econoboxes.

Supposedly the family has owned a Chevy dealership since the 50s, and these are cars that came in as trades or which were deemed not worth repairing by their prior owners. I imagine a lot of the paperwork is missing on most of these cars. The guy who started the thread over on Camaros.net last week claims to have tried to work a deal with the scrap guys, but was coming up empty handed. He actually watched many of the cars being hauled away–"most of the cars had sat so long that when the front end loaders were picking them up the seats would fall through the floor boards." Sad… Still, there is something a bit fishy about the guy’s post. The actual location is never mentioned. Is this just a publicity stunt? Will we be seeing many of these cars on eBay soon? Time will tell. A bunch more pics after the jump.

Once there was a Rock song that part of it’s lyrics said, “we are turning Japanese”! Look at the country some of us fought for in WW1, WWII, and (as myself) Viet-Nam. You can’t even lean on this pieces of s_ _ t

I BELIEVE THAT IT’S THE EVIL INTENTIONS OF THE GLOBAL WARMING CROWD TO HAVE THESE CARS CRUSHED, TO KEEP THEM FROM BEING RESURECTED FOR THE ROAD. THE RECENT BILL THEY TRIED TO PASS THROUGH THE HOUSE AND SENATE THAT WAS STRUCK DOWN BECAUSE IT WAS TOO DRASTIC A MEASURE INCLUDED THIS VERY MOVE TO DESTROY THESE OLD CARS.

Sickening, how can these scrap guys kill their own automotive history?!? Back in the days when I had more time I travelled a lot around the US East Coast to find these places because I love old American iron.

I put my photos up on my homepage. Sorry, it’s still only in German since I relaunched it and have less time than ever for the hobby. Still you should be able to find the galleries (Click on “Fotografie” and find the places on the left hand side)

I uploaded my photos in high res and will give anybody all location information I have if it helps to get at least a few cars away from the crusher.

I found one in my own town just after moving in, a bunch of us kids. Same story, except it was world war two era.. air force cars, and even a fuselage of a b17 that made a popular magazine… The above photo indicates northern climate…

Ugh!! I think I am going to be sick! I am the eternal optomist and I think any car can be brought back from the grave or scary woods!!!

Let’s emancipate these cars!!!

Uggh, what a shame. With any luck the Scrap guys will sell them to guys who want them. Probably at a lucrative price but, perhaps there is some light there…

You know what, I actually feel sick. I hated reading this post, looking at those once awesome cars simply rotting away. And worst of all, they arn’t even going to be saved.
