Richard Rawlings Rejoins Bullrun!
By John Coyle
Editor
Richard made a grand entrance when he rolled into Calgary in tis tricked-out, Escalade-powered Chevy Caprice—is it fair to call it a donk?—but he never made it to the first lunch checkpoint in Whitefish, Montana. The problem was a bad fuel pump. As it turns out, the car’s gas cap was—get this—tightened two turns too many, and was choking off the tank’s return line, which tore up the fuel filter, and eventually, the pump. And though there wasn’t a replacement able to produce the sixty pounds necessary to feed the mighty Caddy motor in the tiny town where he and co-pilot Aaron were stranded, they didn’t give up. Aaron—who is apparently a fabrication wizard—worked all night trying to cobble one together from pieces in a local one-lift shop, before a fellow gearhead hopped on his motorcycle and ran over a replacement from Spokane, WA. How cool is that?

He drinks Miller Lite??? I thought this guy’s image was that he is a “rockstar”. He needs to save those beers for the girls and grab himself a Heineken.

given the car never had fuel injection.. way to be ingenuitive counting on the gas cap. There is a safer means to go direct for return expansion (venter) within the tank, like modern cars.. and it is a very simple thing to do…but hey. Ya got it going…

Love it or hate it, it’s sure got character. Glad to see him hangin’ in there. A rally with a bunch of broken cars ain’t much fun!

John if you think of it can you ask him why he went with a seafoam green Caprice over any other car he could have obviously chosen. Its a cool car and I love it, Im just curious why he likes it.
