All yall just shutup about the Z06. I bought a GT-R about a month ago. My friend owns a Z06, and we have raced twice on the local track. I beat him in every type of race. Even he agrees that the GT-R is a way better car, and for a matter of fact, he is looking to trade in his vette for a GT-R as soon as he can find one.

I’m sorry i wasn’t thinking i guess. The corvette produces 505hp and 470tq using nothing but engine while the nissan requires 2 turbos to produce 480 hp and 430tq. Yes, I am now aware that that the nissan makes 25 less hp and 40 less tq than the corvette. I’m sorry. Also I was wrong about it “killing” gas. It actually gets 26mpg on the highway according to fueleconomy.gov My apologies to everyone.

the vette is a gas killing V8, that needs a V8 7.0L engine to give out 505hp and GT-R is a V6 with close to 500hp, that can be driven in all wheel or rear wheel drive. american’s just think about how big they can make the engine , but never think about gas efficiency, and with the gas soo high we need more gas efficient cars.

i love japanese technology, so for me it’s definitly GT-R

The gt-r is by far better than the corvette because this car can run with supercars like ferrari’s such a F430. the corvette only has power and it’s reputation as a american supercar. i am not saying it is terrible, but it is not the best because, for one it is american and the gt-r a by far more advanced than that car with all the technology. and just because nissan says that this car puts out 480hp, but various dyno test had said that this car has more than 500hp.

No doubt in this showdown. The vette takes it in my opinion. The vette is truly a piece of american history and has been at the top ever since. I mean, dont get me wrong, the skyline is a great ride, but the vette just has it. The zo6 is one of the quickest cars around, and can out perform cars that are not even in the same class. ZO6 is the top of line car, besides the zr1 that is coming out. Now try and have a showdown between the zr1 and a f**king mustang. Vette takes it no matter what it goes up against.

If anyone in here thinks that the Vette is a better car think again, the Porache 911 has a better chance at keeping up, the only advantage the Vette has on the GTR is its weight, but even so, it’s 0-60 time is not 4.1sec thats B.S. who ever came up with that number, with its ability i can launch from 0-60 in 3.3- 3.7sec. everytime, and i put any amount of money that no matter what track you put the two on the GTR will always win, the Vette’s handling isnt there like the GTR, need more proof, look on YouTube, and type in GTR vs. Corvette, and be prepared to cry like little bitches, cause it ant gonna be pretty, THANK YOU COME AGAIN!

@JEFF: you right about one thing. Force induction have played a major role in the import scene. BUT i would rather have a 2.0L Boosted than to have a 5.0+ liters and have to drop the motor just to do a tune up.

STOP TALKING ABOUT THE “ZR1″, cause we’re comparing the Z06 with 505 HP, to the GT-R, not the ZR1 with 620 HP. Think about it for a second. Don’t ever emntion ZR1’s again , because they barely came out yet. Also to remind you, the ZR1 isn’t the same price as the GT-R or Z06. We’re talking 70 g’s not 100g’s. GOT IT!!!!! Going back to the subject, the 505hp Z06, burnsout until 3rd gear, makes no sense to get one at all, if ur tires are wasted in the first week. The gadgets in the Gt-r can’t ever be compared to a vette’s technology. That just shows how crappy american cars are built. Any car outside American boundaries, have a lot of thought put into the making of them, and they’ll have the latest tech gadgest. On the other hand, american cars are just made HUGE HUGE HUGE, bigger dont make it better. The car is 70 g’s cause engine itself costs around 40 g’s, since its such a big engine. Whats the point of that.
Lets talk about muileage now. GTR has a computer that can tell you at what RPM you should change gears to get the best mileage, even going up to 26 mpg’s. CAN A VETTE DO THAT??? I DONT THINK SO!! This is what Americans don’t ever look or think about. The bigger the engine for american cars, the bigger the gas tank = a heavy load of $$$ for ur gas tank. You didn’t think about that did you now? everybody is saying that the vette would suck in the corners and the GTR would be so much better, but the vette is 700 lbs lighter, which helps in straight line and cornering. I haven’t seen anyone mention this yet. Dumb import kids don’t know that weight has anything to do with performance though. The Corvette gets my vote.

I think both cars are very impressive. I think it’s also nice to help the GT-R out by going against a lower line Corvette. This makes it a closer comparison. The ZR-1 would definately blow the doors off this top of the line Nissan. I am a true American and believe still that the Corvette will beat the GT-R.

Hot Imports….you need to research the horsepower output of the ZR-1 you obviously don’t know what you talking about. The Zr-1 as is puts out an estimated 620hp and 595 ft lbs of torque and it is supercharged which I think is why there is a hoodscoop so it can clear the hood…..Why would you even mention that anyways being they are putting a Z06 up against the Gt-R and your also mentioning gas mileage I honestly don’t see where they said which car gets better gas mileage also its a preference. Just because you prefer a foreign car and someone else prefers and American car doesn’t make you right and them wrong You must be one of those brain dead kids who thinks putting a coffee can sized muffler on a 88 accord adds like 250 hp. I have seen varying numbers from Car and Driver, Motor Trend, etc on the GTR and honestly………….I don’t know what to believe. a Z-R1 cost more than 70 grand so that makes it cheap since were talking higher money. American cars suck. It looks exactly like the Z06 but with a hood scoop and little bit more hp. It does not have the technology and potential to beat a skyline any day. Corvettes look the same since 1967 with the stingray. the only thing that stings is the gas pump bitches. Everybody tell me im not right, or else go kill urselves. American cars are like steak big and meaty but cant perform anywhere. a Z06 is a thing that gives you a heart attack since you never know what direction it will take once u press the gas pedal. On the other hand the GTR is very predictable. Everything is adjustable from performance to suspension unlike the corvettes or american cars. TO SHANE. One freaking word, “GT-R”!!!.

Even if you put twin turbos in a Vette, you’ll wear your tires ina an instant, and then where you gonna go. Another thing is that the VETTE seems to burnout about a quarter mile, leaving your tires all shreded up by the end of the turn, and that do you no good. GT-R, with a little help from the turbos keep the tires stuck to the ground like superglue, and will chase down the vette, like a cheetah going after a pig, making it an easy slaughter. Skylines with turbos is what’s all about in this new generation. No one cares about big 7 or 8 liter engines. Vettes probably will never cahbge their style even after a thousand years, and this is what makes them look so crappy. Skylines improved and came a long way, so I give them BIG PROPS!!!.

ZO6 is my choice. Yes I prefer Domestic cars, but I also like the incredible amount of technology and performance the GTR delivers.

I, for one, believe that the units that Nissan delivered to the auto media were “ringers”, and that in everyday situations the Corvette is the better performer. The reason I say this is because I have seen variations in performance statistics in various publication that are outside the realm natural variance.

The first reviews and tests of the GTR were almost unbelievable, and subsequent testing seems more realistic.

The GTR will be faster than the ZO6 to 60, but by 100 and at speeds above the Vette will walk. This is evidenced by the trap speeds these two are showing in the 1/4 mile. GTR is between 116-120 and the Vette is always around 125 mph. That is a huge difference.

I also believe that there are some tracks that cater to the GTR, and many publications (and Nissan themselves) specifically chose those venues to submit times for. The Ring notwithstanding (although no US or production spec GTR has been tested there).

Bottom line is that these are both pretty awesome vehicles and it makes me happy they both whip the 911 turbo for half the price. The Corvette is my choice though.

People need to remember the corvette is naturally aspirated where as the gtr is twin turbo. Put twin turbo in a vette you will be pushin like 1000 hp so no need to say a 3.8 w/ more power. Z06, and the only reason the GTR is faster is because of AWD and thats also a bad thing cuz it looses 15% of its power, due to 2 drive lines.

the Z06 can only go straight while the GTR cant go around the bends as easy as going straight. Think about it it has the saame price as a Z06. which one would you really choose. a 3.3 sec car or a 3.8 sec car with more hp and less weight. the corvette is light on its feet and thats why the gtr is in the supercar league because it can handle like a supercar. the price tag is excellent for its performance. the gtrs have been around for a while and i believe that this one is the best. corvettes have huge engines. who needs a 7 liter engine compared to a 3.8 liter that has almost the same amount of hp. with less hp it still beats the corvette even when heavier by 700 lbs. the new gtr looks like a coupe 2008 evo to me I saw it in person at the car show and it looks like its trying too hard to look tough..and with the lower performance numbers the vette is just bad ass when I see one whether its the c6 or the z06 they all get respect as monsters compared to the gtr which just reminds me of another version of the vq series of cars(altima coupe,350z and g35) dont get me wrong there good cars but not what I consider sporting cars or muscle cars at all.so give me a convertible vette with some nice rims and im set

Just followed a few that popped up in the related panel on the link provided.

I think Tyler’s comments are about ricers in general, and many of the comments made on the posts preceding, rather than about the GT-R itself.

I’d still rather have the ‘vette. I like some of the older Skyline looks much better than the new GT-R. I’m sure it will be a fun ride either way.

You know, i love both. They both perform better than everyone thought they would when first released, and they both set benchmarks that other, more expensive cars are trying to even catch up to.

now, the Vette has a beastly sound to it, its made with fiberglass and carbon fiber, great weight distribution, a mean and gnarly 7 L V8, 6 speed manual, and its been around for a few years.

however, the GT-R usually handles better, is actually underrated and most say it has more like 520 hp (just like the R34, my ass it has only 260) and has those cool paddle shifters.

both cost about the same, but which to choose? depends. if youre some rich asshole that doesn’t need to drive in traffic, the Z06. but as a DD, the GT-R doesnt have that rough assed racing gearbox that makes driving in traffic a nightmare even for well experienced manual-transmission drivers.

however much i hate to say this, i would go with the GT-R. I really wish that it came with a manual transmission option and was modifiable but i guess you can’t have it all. maybe the ZR1 will be a better contender…?

gtr has a nice look.. vette has a meaner look.. the vette is RWD and the GTR has horespower robbing AWD.. weight on the vette is 656 ib less, pretty substantial.. also 25 hp is another additional plus for the vette.. plus put a natually aspirated 505 hp V8 against a V6 twin turbo and theres no contest.. V6= not nearly as much available torque, twin turbo=lag time.. i own a hot rod shop and build everything from 60’s muscle, fox body race 5.0’s, b16 race engines, large displacement 6 cylinders for Jeeps.. you can supercharge turbocharge anything.. but a high flowing, fuel injected V8 is the best starting point as far as power.. on the track, stopping, and the other areas i cannot say because all we have is numbers.. on paper the vette puts it to shame..

As for those of you who say the ZR-1 will stomp it, then you should stop and think for a second. You would hope it would beat the GT-R because if you’re paying for a 110,000 dollar vette you would hope to beat something that is 40grand cheaper. However, once the V-Spec GT-R comes out the ZR-1 will again lose. Plain and simple.

By the time of the r32 skylines GTR those were unbeatables, but today zo6 clearly beats the crap out of any gtr only with power/weight ratio, plus an AWD needs a bit more power to accomplish the same perf. than a rwd (more moving parts) so the GTR is clearly outperformed by the corvette. I’d still go for the nissan (if one takes the corvette because it is faster, there will always be a faster car than that one anyway)

I think this is an amazing match up. in the 1/4 mile the GT-R is a little faster with the AWD. but in a real on the street roll the corvette would probably win. so my vote is for the Z06. Plus its an American muscle car AND A CHEVY!

Really comes down to what you prefer; classic American Muscle or modern Japanese Hot Rod? As for me, I think both are amazing, well engineered machines that have great value for the price. I think I’d personally opt for the Z-06 just because there’s less computer influence involved. To tame the car relies more on Driver skill than which mode you put the car in, such as in the GT-R. Although I must admit, hitting 0-60 in 3.6 secs in that Skyline would be pretty damn sweet. Good comparison, but I take the Muscle in this one.

Well I’m a little disgusted after reading what ‘GTR’ and ‘Mohammed’ were going through. Was all of that really necessary?
Even though the GT-R is heavier and has less power I would still pick it over the ZO6 simply because I’ve never been a ‘Vette person. I do believe though that the ZO6 could run quicker 1/4’s than the GTR could, but I also believe that the GTR could stomp the ZO6 on a circuit.

The Z06, but I wouldn’t be mad if I owned either. The front of the skyline needs to be more aggressive, it looks to much like a 350z. And get rid of the retarded “gt-r” and call it ’skyline’, just like it should be. I do like the skyline’s rear end styling, it pays homage to the previous generations. I would love to see these two cars race. Better yet, I thought I was reading something about a Spec V. version for the skyline. That vs. a ZR1 would be even better.

Ok, how fast can the Vette do a lap of the Ring? I would love for them to go head to head in that type of lap battle, or in any race that is not in a straight line or just an oval. The GT-R will stomp all over the the Vette and then some. I would really like to see a stock Vette smoke a Hayabussa, but then it all goes down to the driver. Until all of you have driven both cars and compared them on an unbiased scale, STFU. However, as good as it is, she comes with just as many complications that restrict the car from being modified. VICE the Corvette which is like the current epitome of American Sports/Muscle cars; and additionally being able to modify, adjust, and generally make better.

So the question is do you want a car that’s the high-end yet affordable supercar that will always give the feel of power but at the cost of retaining it stock; or do you want the symbol of American power with the ability to always still make it better?

The corvette, its americas supercar and you cant beat it for the price.

OK, you guys must be high. The GTR is a smokin’ hot car. Yes, it’s managed by complicated electronics, but the Corvette gets more and more every year. The GTR is the epitome of modern muscle sports cars. The Corvette is hot, there is no doubt there. It is an all-American muscle car, but it is still as dull as every other Corvette before it – cheap interior, blah rear-end, and retro styling (and not retro like they brought it back to be cool, retro like they never thought of anything new). Now, I wouldn’t say ‘no” if you offered me one for free, but really, the only thing the Vette has is a awesome motor.
The GTR is cutting edge in just about every way. It is the automotive future (unless Hybrids take over, God-forbid).

Lets see, the Japanese computer on wheels or the All American V8 Legend. ID rather die trying to steal a Z06 than drive a GT-R that was given to me for nothing. But as Stewart said, id rather take the ZR1:)

This is a damn tough choice, while the Corvette claims more power and is a part of American history. I’d have to go with the GT-R, the Corvette has the whole mid life crisis stigma, especially after my 52 year old uncle bought one. Plus I think the GT-R looks better, the dual-clutch is a pretty slick setup, and the planted feel of AWD is always sweet to have on curvy mountain roads. So I’ll go with the GT-R.
