CarDomain Member Survives Burly Wreck!

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Following his catastrophic pre-Memorial Day wreck, CarDomain member Jeff was finally well enough today to post about his ordeal in the CarDomain Garage forum. The barely-recognizable hulk you see hanging off that wrecker is what’s left of his friend’s Saturn SL2, which Jeff took around a corner just a leetle too fast and then lost control after a close encounter with a pickup. He got off onto the shoulder and barrel-rolled the car three times before coming to rest against a stand of trees. He got away with a broken pelvis (in four places), a shifted knee, extensive nerve damage along one side—he’s now full of pins and plates. But looking at that twisted remains of that Saturn, it’s hard to believe the crash was even survivable. Best wishes to Jeff for a fast and hopefully complete recovery—thanks for not dying! A few more of Jeff’s pics of the wreck are posted below the jump, and he’s got the rest of them on his myspace page (login required). Please drive safely, everyone—we want all our members to stay with us!

Hey Jeff,

I know how you feel. I just totaled my truck a little less than 2 months ago. Check out my ride page, and view the pictures. I hit a tree too !!!!! Hope you get well, and hope you don’t do it again. Thank God everyday that you are alive. God is the only reason that you, and your friends are alive today to tell everyone about your story.

That car is slagged.
Shame on you for slagging such a nice car (but thank the Lord you’re alive to tell the tale!) At least it wasn’t a 1st Generation SL2…
It seems you found the ‘dents’ the panels couldn’t ‘resist’.

Hey Jeff,
Even though i dont know you and probably dont even live in the same state as you i hope you will be okays! You are very lucky to survive and im sure alot of people have told you that, and you are :) i know your recovery will be painful and maybe hard but in the end you will hopefully have a full recovery :) I was in a car accident once (not even close to as bad though) but i was in the back seat of a car similar to the one you had your accident in and it was raining and wet and at night and the driver went around a corner to fast and we slid out into a ute and then off the road. Luckily no one was hurt, just in alot of shock! and the ute ended up in more worse for wear than us!
Anyways just take car of yourself and i hope things for you will be better in the future and where REALLY glad to see your alive :)
Send me a post one time so we can chat to see how your progress is going :)
Cheers!

that car can look like a crushed soda can even in the 40s mph. after 3 barrel rolls, he must have been in a slow speed to survive. I too had pins, plates and needles, and a chunk of my hip is gone…slow motion destruction in a 4 door pickup truck. Good luck jeff, and feel free to blame the car every chance you get. I can relate. If you were in the 50s-60s mph and hit trees sideways, you wouldn’t be here.mislt like;y the passengers as well..they may not even figured who was driving…Anyway,Bad Comments are nothing, with truth unknown. Best wishes on recovery…

Hey Guys, thanks for the well wishes, and as for the not so well, it’s ok. They don’t understand the whole story….yes, i was going , as Jen put it, a LEETLE too fast, but the truck was in our lane as we rounded the corner. I took avasive action to AVOID hiiting the guy head on and killing me and my two friends who were in the car….But I’m just glad to be alive and here to type and tell the wholoe story….and just for giggles and grins, the side with the massive side was my side, and I got the worst injuries. My friend is fine, he just had some tissue loss in his foot, and the girl in the back seat got out and walked away perfectly fine. And as far as the car, I think it stood mup very well for 3 barrel rolls, and a random line of trees…..I’ll be on more, to tell more as I hopefully get better and get back to school…let you guys know as I know…

Well I am glad he is alive and not dead. But there is no way in heck he took that turn a little to fast. If that was the case the car would not look like a crushed soda can. I wonder if his friend will let him drive his next car ?

OK, I have to ask why so many rude comments towards the driver of the car? People make mistakes, I am sure all of you are soooo perfect. Have some compassion lowlifes.

Jeff – I hope you make a good recovery. That was one close call.

As to the car, that Saturn is a pretty stout little car. I knew a guy in college who had one similar to that. He was going skiing in Montana when they hit a patch of black ice doing about 55 MPH. The car slid off the road and rolled 3-4 times. Everyone survived (Including the cat who was in a carrier int he back). The skis strapped to the roof however did not…

Imagine if the car wasn’t made out of plastic it might be recognizable!
