Two-Wheel Drive Motorcycle?

By John Coyle

I have to admit, I was a little surprised when I saw BMW had designed a two-wheel drive motorcycle. I mean, doesn’t that just sound like something that wouldn’t work? There isn’t a lot of info on how the front wheel is actually driven, but I imagine it works kind of like Yamaha’s 2-Trac system—another two-wheel drive bike I didn’t know about—which uses hydraulics and a special front hub assembly to transfer the power to the ground. Apparently the handling is greatly improved over the standard model, and the bike actually placed fourth in the European Hill Climb Championship.

It looks like the rear axle doesn’t belong to this bike, it so far away…
