What Did You Do This Weekend?
By Jen Dunnaway

I got my Escort GT running! It had been off the road for awhile after I removed the Holley 4 bbl in preparation for swapping on a Weber. With the new Weber hooked up on Friday, it fired right up after only a little coaxing, and John from Autosport helped me tune it up. It idles nice and even, and springs forward the way it’s supposed to when you stomp the gas. I spent some quality time with the Escort over the weekend, bombing around and getting a feel for the new setup. I also changed the oil, polished up the aluminum wheels, and gave the car a nice detail wash in anticipation of Lamborghini Monday–somebody’s gotta show up all those drab Lambo factory paintjobs, heh.
How about you? What did you do this weekend?

Took my ’97 Astro AWD with 299K miles off roading, added a couple more dents to it and came to the realization that I’ll be trying my hand at rebuilding the transmission sooner than I hoped.

The car does look good, Jen. The shot was also a very good one. It’s rare enough. at least around here to be first in line at a drawbridge.

I bought a 1988 mazda 929 for $650 bucks, towed it home, and got too look it over. Gonna get it tuned up, and all fixed within the next 2 weeks.

Spent the weekend showing the RoadMonster at two shows.
Both at the Oregon State Fairgrounds, during the Marion County Fair.
Saturday was the “Les Schwab Best of the Northwest” show and
Sunday was the “Northwest All Chevy/GM Show”.
.
Had a great time talking to a lot of car people.
.
Also, because it was held during the county fair, there
was a lot of foot traffic that car shows don’t usually get,
from non-car people (or at least people who aren’t car maniacs
like all of us on CarDomain).
.
It was HOT both days. 102 on Sat & 94 on Sunday.
I guess I am acclimated to the Northwest, as those
temps never would have bothered me when I lived in the
high desert of So Cal…
.
The car did well, winning trophies both days.
.
I can’t wait until the next show, that isn’t until July 27th.
.
.
Oh yeah, are any of you Buick fans coming to the Buick Regionals
August 15-17th in Salem?
.
We’ll be there…
.
Hope to see some of you there.

sparked up an old 88 chevy 3/4 ton pickup, last of big sounding high compression, to let it go for 300 bucks. momentus occasion, even recorded it. I will never own one, or drive one again. 11:1 is for race tracks I guess.14mpg at its best, from new off the lot, 183k miles and 3 engines ago…the good ole days are gone. To say the 87 sube outhauled it, outran it, out 4×4′d, and got 3 times the gas mileage even on a bad day. it is well known without bragging..and that stays in the yard daily driven.3500 pounds hauled in pieces, instead of all at once, is worth 3 trips…you say?

I’ve been having problems with my transmission surging when it’s shifting from 2-3 and 3-4. I’ve tried everything from changing the trans fluid and filter, installing an external trans cooler, replacing my TP sensor, installed a shift kit, and even cleaned out my shift accumulator, and nothing worked. I lent my mother my car for the day on Friday, and when I got it back, the surging is gone.
wtf…
I noticed my average MPG went down too, so maybe the car just needed a good ole’ beating.
Thanks mom.

Oh, I forgot the other car related activity. We took our son out to Bucks in Lexington. They have a decent go-cart track there. He drove the kiddie carts then rode with me in one of the big adult sizes carts. This was his first ride in a kart and he was all smiles the entire time. I forsee many trips out to that place in the future.

Nothing car related. Unless you count dream shopping on E-bay. But for the want of $10,00 I could be the proud owner of a 1985 944 with trailer and a late 60′s Triumph. Both track cars. Now if I could only find a local sponser….

I decided to change the color of my car. It’s kinda like putting on a new t-shirt but instead it took 4 hours. Check our my ride page to see my smart fortwo go from silver, to naked, to black.

I took my Son with me on a long drive, going to a family reunion. Once we got there, the music was too loud for him and the amount of people was too much for him. We took him inside to a much quieter and more calm environment, but it was too late. He was pretty much freaking out by then. We were only there for about 20 minutes, I didn’t get anything to eat or drink, and managed only to say “hello” to most. Didn’t manage to get in a “goodbye” either, we just had to leave.

Autism really sucks sometimes. I only see some of those every 5 or 10 years maybe.

Oh, and to add to the fun, the Firebird was overheating on the way home. Somehow a bubble formed in the cooling system. I’m going to yank the thermostat, I HATE those things during the warmer months… nothing but a useless orifice for that part of the year.

I went on a 150 mile motorcycle ride and burned 2.3 gallons of gas, giving me…. 65.2 mpg. I think im gonna keep the bike!
~
Car related, I put 93 octane plus a led based octane booster that supposed to give me 105 octane. I think it worked cause my car sounded a whole lot nastier.
~
I also installed E2 spark plugs and boy what a difference even before I added the “irished up” gas.

Didn’t do anything car related on the weekend unfortunatly. This weekend should be good though, Farnbourgh AirShow, one of the worlds biggest airshows is on. Should be great.
