Rare Gem: The $300,000 JDM Super Car

By Ben Schaffer

Bulletproof Automotive

During my recent trip to Japan I had the good fortune of randomly stumbling upon a JDM historic gem of a car, the Toyota 2000GT. I was shocked as I walked down the street in Ikeburuko to suddenly find this legendary car sitting in a public parking lot like any normal daily driver would.

I knew roughly how rare and valuable the car was at that time, but after doing a little more research I found that the odds of me seeing this car was in fact even more unlikely than I thought. Produced between 1967 and 1970, Toyota only made 351 of them worldwide. The car became famous as the first major Japanese super car and as—as far as I know—the only ever Japanese-made "Bond Car." It seems these cars in good condition often sell for prices in the $300,000 USD range. More photos after the jump.

Dear Toyota:
It used to be that you didn’t suck.

Japan, WHAT HAPPENED?
Oh, yeah. America, WHAT HAPPENED.

I wish they still made cars that look good.

Very JDM Jaguar in the looks department. Definitely beautiful but I wouldn’t have had any idea how rare without your story first. Just goes to show you how much cool stuff there is out there, especially in other parts of the world, just waiting to be discovered by American audiences!

definately a mainstrem mimick for its design. 3 different models around the world at the same time frame as the toyota just popped in to my head faster than I can write them. Very nice that they made one, japan isn’t all rebel childish inline fours sometimes…
