Lotus’ Eagle Has Landed…
By John Coyle
Editor
Unfortunately, it looks like it hit every branch of the ugly tree on the way down. Up until now, all the images of Lotus’ new V6 2+2 covered in a boxy, burqa-like cladding, and personally, I liked it better when there was a little left to the imagination. Now, I absolutely love the curvy, aggressive styling of its stablemates—the Elise and the Exige are some of the best looking cars in any price rage—but I can’t wrap my head around the angular reboot they’ve given this car. Sure, it have room for a bag of golf clubs, and rear passengers up to five feet, but those aren’t reasons why most people purchase a Lotus, and I’m curious to see whether the Eagle has wings. What do you think about the styling? Am I smoking crack? More pics after the jump.

Well I’m not sure about the looks – but I think it’s fishy that Lotus make a big song and dance about it being a 2+2 and then don’t provide any pictures showing even a corner of the back seats…
Leather parcel shelf I reckon.

Thumbs up! I’m an Italian by nationality…so I know how supercars should look (ideally, hehe).

I think it’s a grower – the more I look at it the more I like it. Although the rear spoiler is a bit Elise, the windscreen is a bit M250, the rear intakes a little Tesla and the sharp lines remind me of er… a Z4 (oh dear). Overall it looks like a Lotus. It reminds me a bit of an Artega GT, although the inside looks better. I’m looking forward to seeing it in the flesh next week…
Any news on pricing?

Well after waitng 8 years for this car to come out, being cheated and decieved about the actual launch date of the m250 which was an amazing car (why is it that the protype car is always really cool and the real life model is sooooo naff). Also being decieved about the launch of the esprit which should have come out in 2006,now its 2010 apparently. I have owned a elise 160sport which was cool but fell apart from new, owned a exige.which was cool but fell apart.
I think this is eagle car overated and ugly.
of course there are always die hard lotus fans out there that will automaticaly love anything built by lotus whatever it looks like.
all i can say to those people is keep taking the pills.
I’m going to see it at the excel motor show to give lotus a second chance you never know I may change my views.
at this point in time I fully agree with John coyle

It looks kinda average. Too much like a smaller corvette or something and not enough like a lotus.

LoL the Tesla are made by Lotus….basically a Tesla is an Elise only runs on electricity. If you check the back ground on the Tesla you’ll see that the car was designed by the Lotus which explains the similarities in the Tesla and Elise. This one though just looks stunning! I have to get this.

it reminds me of a tesla. which is weird because a tesla looks like a lotus.
so its a lotus that looks like a tesla, which would then look like a lotus. but the thing is…i dont see a lotus when i look at it.
make sense?

I think you’re smoking crack. I LOVE the way this car looks. The only thing I would change would be to have the bare-bones racecar interior of the Elise/Exige. I just can’t imagine a Lotus with upholstery.

It looks less feminine. Maybe i’d consider driving a lotus now.

so we agree that johns on crack! lol this thing is awesome, taking lotus to a more usefull angle is great, not that its a daily driver at all still
only odd look is from the rear so i say it only nocked a twig on the ugly tree

I like it, but that it…LIKE. It does look like an esprit and an elise had a baby, but who cares, its pure lotus. I completely agree tho, in the styling department, the elise/exige PWN ALL. those are two cars I simple LOVE. who knows, maybe I’m tokin the same pipe John, but I may be right.

I think it looks great. From the side you can definitely see influence from the Esprit. Especially the line that curves up from the front wheel well and ends just behind the door. Very nice. The floating roof is very modern and stylish, and the back end and front do a great job of identifying it as a Lotus. I think it all comes together very well. The interior also reminds me of the Esprit. It has a modern look to it, but in many ways it is very retro. The straight edges on the nav screen and the steering wheel are what do it I think. I’ll take mine in Racing Green with red leather please.

well looks like most everyone likes it so you must be smoking crack and i actually thought the boxy coverings made this eagle look like it was trapped in the 80’s, so im real glad lotus has done a good job to make another cool looking car. it must be a bitch to see out of but thats what you get with any supercar..

besides the fact that the round taillight thing is completely overdone, this car is sexy as hell.

The car is not as bad as some but definately not up to par with it’s siblings in the Lotus family. Too me it looks like the bastard child of the Elise and a NSX. Look at the headlights and shape of the front. I would need some track shots to get a better opinion.

I dont understand what theres not to love. its very refined compared to other lotus models such as the elise. I love how the spoiler is integrated into the body. My only concern is with its very recognizable similarities to koenigsegg.

I like it! It looks like a more modern version of the Esprit.

It looks like they stretched an Elise and stapled an Enzo roof to it. They should go back to the drawing board and bring back the Esprit.

I actually think it is a gorgeous design. The spoiler thing is a little weird, but otherwise, I think it is sexy as hell.

I acutally think it looks pretty good. the back view isn’t THAT great but the side and front views look pretty nice to me.
