Lada 1100 Drifting
Russia and the USSR have a long history of motorsport (both rally and autocross). We’ve got professional rally teams, interesting cars, our kids go to carting schools and so on. A couple of years ago I found this short movie, showing Baltic rally-racers driving theirs Lada 1100 (VAZ-2101)–one of the legendary Soviet rides. At the time this clip was taken we’d not even heard the word "drift," but look at those guys! They’ve got a real drift experience!

I used to drive poison-green Lada with square headlights, 1200cc big-block and tail light as a feather. Then again, in Finland we have roads that are wicked slippery when covered in snow…
It’s an insane feeling to have so little power but so much power slide!

It takes some mad skills to drive a Lada around a track like that. Especially since even the safest cars from that era can kill you if you screw up the corner. I liked the part where that actually got the car airborne. cool stuff

Damn! It takes some serious balls to throw a car with the build quality of a tin can around like that. The music is great too – really puts me in an 80s Russian mood. I like the stop at the end too – when you get it up on two wheels, it shows you really just don’t give a f*$k.
