Superhero Cars

By Mike Musto

AKA Mr. Angry

First off, I have no idea how this topic popped into my head so just humor me, ok? Think about all the superheros out there. Batman, Superman, Hancock… doesn’t matter. Now, think about their rides. Who out there, aside from Batman, really has a kick ass car? Now, when I say Batman’s ride I mean the "Tumbler," not the original goof-mobile he drove in the 60s.

Tony Stark (Ironman) rolls in a Audi R8, which is a pretty wicked ride. Frank Castle (The Punisher) had a 1968 Pontiac GTO. I’ve been racking my brain thinking of some cool super rides and just haven’t come up with much. Who out there in superhero nerdville can help me out with this one?

Tumbler

the “turbo interceptor” from the Wraith movie was a chrysler prototype called the Dodge m4s. it had about 400hp from a twin turbo 2.2 inline 4 many of the car’s features showed up as factory options on other mopars in the following years. (wheels, flip up headlights for the daytona, 2.2 inline 4-detuned of course)

Magnum PI was a great show all around and yes the ferrari was very cool. I own a camaro and will always be a camaro and firebird enthusiast, but I think Knight Rider is a lame show. It’s just too cheesy. Hasselhoff is way too gay.

BLACK BEAUTY from the Green Hornet! How can you go wrong with a kick ass black car with green headlights, and Bruce Lee driving it? Yeah, it kicks the bat mobiles ass!

Don
Jul 26, 2008 at 6:35 am

Personally I favor the Batmobile from the 80’s and 90’s. The original was built from two dissected 73 Impala’s. What about Daredevil Evil Knievil’s black Lotus?? (was it a lotus?) Any how that was a nifty ride…(yes I said ‘Nifty”)And really, wasn’t he a high flying hero?
I suppose the Fantastic Four’s flying sedan could qualify…
But I think you’re right….Most of you anyway. Batman has quite possibly the coolest fantasy ride out there. And it spans generations. A recent article in a Car and Driver listed the original ‘Goof – mobile’ as just plain cool on the cool scale reguardless that it couldn’t match the speed or handling of the General Lee or the Big Red Tomato (Starsky and Hutch’s Gran Torino for those of you who don’t remember…)
Any how, The Original Batmobile was a sedan from the 40’s. It has never been built but Corgi did manufacture Batman toy cars that did feature the original Batmobile. Hot Wheels has a current line of Batmobiles out that include the 6o’s TV version, the Animated Series, and the Comic Book version from the late 50’s.
And if I may blog just a bit more,
while being cool, the Tumbler is the first break-away from convention Batmobile. It isn’t sleek, bears a slight resemblence to a bastardized Humvee, and is generaly a midriff punch. The Batmobiles of the past were sleek phantom rides that sliced through the night to wreak havoc upon the Joker, and foil any crime afoot. The Tumbler basically creates a swath of destruction wherever it goes. Nothing subtle or phantom like about that is there?
Don’t get me wrong. Its cool. I just prefer the earlier versions.

Aquaman’s Seahorse, or maybe the Silver Surfers Surfboard, haha there isn’t too many out there.

I can’t even think of a superhero car. A superhero doesn’t scare the women and is appealing. A superheros car does paranormal things…A superhero car is a fantasy, a mind and soul of its own. Oh. No. Herbie is the superhero, and I’m not bananas to say it.

Jul 25, 2008 at 3:32 am

The Munsters weren’t superheroes, but their rod was oh so drool-worthy, especially considering that ride was rumbling back when the series was shot in black & white for TV. Look that sucker up. Definitely wicked.
-
The Mach 5, okay Speed Racer wasn’t a super hero either, and the ride wasn’t real but to a 6-year old at the time it was captivating.
-
The super hero car list is pretty sparse. Many of them flew or just ran really freaking fast. Ever see parking spaces at the Justice League?
