Nightmare Scenario: Without A Car, What Would You Do for Transport?

By Ron

aka WayTooFurious

It’s easy to see why the car continues to lead the pack as one of the industrialized world’s most-used forms of transport. Besides public transport such as buses and trains in some cities, nothing has been able to come close to the convenience, practicality and fun that a car can provide. Remember all the hype that surrounded the Segway when it was launched, how it was going be the next big thing? Thankfully, that never happened. Sure, they can be fun and cheap to run, but it’s the middle of winter in my part of the world and I could think of nothing worse than commuting to work on a Segway! Of course, the Segway isn’t by any means the first "alternative" form of transportation, and there are a lot of choices out there, but if I was forced to ditch my car I would probably settle on something like the Airboard. It has a petrol motor and looks like a hell of a lot more fun—check out some video of the airbords in action. If you were forced to give up your car and had to pick another form of transport, what would you chose?

Motor assisted bicycle. Cheap little weed eater or chainsaw engine and my favorite mountain bike. 30 mph and 120 mpg. Should have one built by the end of August.

A bike. Since I can’t actually… uh… drive yet, That’s what I do any way.

Answer used to be simple. Years go by. Wounds prevailing. Car is approaching the reality of a wheel chair. Falling down riding a bicycle for no reason left alternatives out…Gimping in the cold to no car,but anothers ride, scheduled, short lived, no freedom, no last second “hey stop here, forgot something.” For me, in my 30s, its time to get on a bus and go some place with warm seasons if to lose the lifesaver/keeper called a car. Or paint “soy bomb” on my chest and go for one crazy gimping leaping lunatic jump into the source of problems. The middle east does it all the time.

Even though I own 4 cars, I actually really enjoy walking. I’ll walk some pretty burly distances, even to run errands or haul home groceries. I’d way rather walk than take the bus (which I never do). It’s good exercise and it lets you scope out all the cars parked on the streets in people’s neighborhoods.

Pogo stick. I bought one recently as a joke, but it’s actually fun!
It got me thinking, what if I was so skilled that I could ride this to work everyday?
