What Did You Do This Weekend?

By Jen Dunnaway

I finally sent my diesel Escort parts car to its new home, and it’s not the junkyard! Some crazy person from Portland has a donor car that he wants to use to put this one back on the road—geez, if I’d known someone was going to try and do that, there’s a thing or two I would’ve done differently during its tear-down (like, maybe not cut through the stabilizer bar with a Saws-All to get the transmission out?). I also went to the All-British Field Meet on Saturday at the behest of my favorite head-shop guys—full photocoverage will be up soon! Later, I installed a horn on my Escort GT to replace the factory one that was getting to sound more and more like my cat coughing up a hairball (check out the amazing before and after videos). And finally, I’m in the midst of installing one of those obnoxious split-boots on the passenger-side CV joint of my Eagle—and really kicking myself for cheaping out instead of just getting a complete half-shaft.

How about you? What did you do this weekend?

Glad you finally got rid of it Jen, and without sending it to the crusher.

Jen, your escorts horn does sound like a cat hacking up a hairball. I couldn’t help but giggle. My trucks horn doesn’t sound much better, so I really shouldn’t be laughing.

Just for kicks (well and because I need money) I decided to list my custom Firebird convertible on Craigslist. I chose what I definitely believe was a fair price, but significantly more than I paid when I bought it a year ago. I closed a deal and got a deposit on Sunday.
-
I definitely will miss that car. Restoring it has been a blast and a lot of hard work. What happens on Wednesday night will be the vehicular equivalent to having a kid grow up and leave home. I just hope the kid who’s buying it will treat it even half as good as I have.
-
I’ll give him the run-down before I relinquish the keys… Mobil 1 ONLY no more than every 4000 miles… DON’T race it, please… and don’t let little problems become big problems. I’m also offering him assistance with it, he will have my phone number on his cell phone if he wants.
-
Now the task of what to buy next. F-body’s are the primary focus, but I’ve also looked at an ‘88 Porsche 944, a GORGEOUS customized lowered Astro with a PPG custom paint job and phantom grille, and a jaw-dropping Z28. Not sure about late-90’s Mustangs but curious. Looked at a turbo Eclipse that runs 0-60 in 4.5 seconds…
-
I feel like a kid in a candy store. If anyone has suggestions drop by my Firebird page and leave them, search for GTwildfire… easy enough to find.

Participated in a car show on Sunday.
.
There were about 450-500 cars in the show.
.
The RoadMonster won the “Best Engine” trophy!
.
.
The funny part is that I ordered all new stainless hardware
for the engine compartment, in hopes of having it installed for
this show…
.
…It’ll probably arrive today ;)
.
Oh well, it’ll look even better for the Buick Northwest Regionals August 17th.

The only thing I did car-related was a quick job on adjusting the idle set screw on the holley in the parking lot in work.

That’s hilarious Jen! Your old horn sounds like Herbie… I dunno why but, that’s always the first upgrade for me. I have a set of 78′ Buick Park Avenue Horns on my truck plus one stock one so when I hit the horn it get’s attention!!!

I welded and welded..outside. Following the sun, I moved the car to the shade as the hours went by. Imagine 75 ft+ in half inch increments (not all this weekend, thet as 16 hours welding prior to this weekend)..and hardly seeing the difference , all in dark places. what isn’t seen out loud, may the whole car be seen for another 22 years…and still be ahead. One weekend, resolved many years. All the good cars lost, not putting that simple thought into perspective.
