WTF???

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

This thing just cropped up on Exotic Spotter. Looks like it is based on a Cimbria kit car, with a VW chassis and drivetrain. But are those Cougar headlights? More pics after the jump.

If you run the number plate on the internet you will find it is just a Volkswagen Saloon. But i must congratulate the owner for doing a @#%? good job a making it look

FANTASTIC

In my opinion send it to Top Gear

Mitch
Aug 12, 2008 at 5:07 am

VW powered, also notice the little 53 on the lower front curb side fender.

Mitch
Aug 12, 2008 at 5:03 am

This thing is awsome!!! I don’t get why people are saying to turn the scoops around, try pissing out the back of a truck going down the road at 60mph, it will not work in your favor. Air will get forced into those scoops without creating drag. Like a cowl induction hood on the old muscle cars, such as th 70 chevelle SS. Now, is that VW powered or Porsche powered?

Jax Rhapsody
Aug 9, 2008 at 7:04 pm

I want that car so bad or to build something like it. The scoops face that way so they work, They capture ambient air, behing the car. If they faced foward you would need roof or side scoops.

rommel69
Aug 6, 2008 at 11:46 am

nice dude! but hope nobody bump you from behinde!!!!! the car will look better with a darker color……..

Is it just me..or is everyone else seeing the couger front end?? Cool design..looks incomplete..and 2 blower scoops facing the wrong way…eek

Looks like a Del Sol frame and partial body. Post us when it’s finished and they turn the blower intakes around the right way

Anonymous

When are they going finish putting the car together, lol. Seriously though, it looks incomplete. Cool concept, but incomplete looking.

thats a sweet kit, i like the engine, it just looks like they straped two giant motorcycle mufflers on it.

Anonymous
Aug 1, 2008 at 11:08 pm

I’m sorry, but the only things this appears to be is sad… a sad attempt at using used shark bait for inspirational design

wevegota415e
Aug 1, 2008 at 6:33 pm

that is one crazy kit. definetly catches the eye, i like the whole engine deal.

:-)

Adam
Aug 1, 2008 at 9:01 am

Looks amazing tbh! Rear lights of a vauxhal vx220, headlights of a ford cougar! Mental

Millertime
Aug 1, 2008 at 7:23 am

If the rear end was closed off and had a good fast lookin flow i think the car would be unreal lookin, its different and kudos to the person who came up with it

Jax Rhapsody
Aug 1, 2008 at 2:09 am

I think its got Gallant Altezzas too.

Jax Rhapsody
Aug 1, 2008 at 2:07 am

I like it. Only thing I see is it would have a problem goin over speedbumps.
Looks like thos fart cans have Tornado air managment system things in them. Those could be cougar headlights or Intrepid’s either way the lights are trick, Just wish Herbie’s race number was bigger. I would buy it.

Jul 31, 2008 at 10:47 pm

Thing is God-awful ugly lol….but look at the monster out back! You think it’s a modded Mercury Cougar until it blows by you doing mach 1 lol….

Donnie Mac
Jul 31, 2008 at 9:19 pm

Step forward? Try back to the future. The open rear end is reminiscent of the Baja Bugs of the ’70s.

RotaryLover
Jul 31, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Most of u guy hate it but am sure that in 2030 or later we’ll have some cars like that and you’ll love it because it will be the new fashion frenzy…remember when they launched the BMW 7 series in 2002 everyone was like WTF is this rear end(bangle butt)?? 2 years later Nissan, Toyota, Acura copied it and everyone liked it OR how about the civic? even if it’s design is weird ppl buy it like hot bread (maybe it’s because of it’s reputation…I don’t know). So in summary…everyone who said it’s ugly will like that car in later years(unless u really REALLY hate it). It might look unfinished, but the concept ROCKS! That’s what I call a step forward!

Tom
Jul 31, 2008 at 4:36 pm

Looks like the back end feel off and they super glued it back on. I like different, but come on, this “thing” looks half done. I wouldn’t be caught dead in it. Just my 2 cents…

gaz
Jul 31, 2008 at 3:04 pm

i’ve allways wanted a NOVA kit car.

but the backs of them allways looked a bit wrong.

this incarnation on the other hand is crazy enough to to pull it off. i like it. :) i wouldn’t mind seeing the ‘less radical’ version also.

this thing looks 99% better than some civic with a OTT crappy body kit. (in an attempt to look different) if civic owners want something thats different, then they should build propper KIT CARS, instead of ruining normal road cars. IMO

oh,.. and i like the mirrors. nice.

Wreck
Jul 31, 2008 at 2:48 pm

Who wrecked this car and put pictures of it on here? Haha. I’ve never been a big fan of kit cars, but kudos to those who build’em. I know it takes quite a bit of work to put these together… He could have at least made one that was a bit more tasteful…

JayLow
Jul 31, 2008 at 2:07 pm

There is a great deal of effort to do something here,…I just can’t quite figure it out. I mean really. The Mille Miglia wheels are a super touch to something that makes absolutely no sense what SO ever. Dune Buggy on steroids?

Pssh
Jul 31, 2008 at 1:26 pm

Its quite a unique car… you will never see one of these on the road… someone was creative… and actually built it then just on the computer..

Mr. Blue 66
Jul 31, 2008 at 12:53 pm

Very creative mind at work here. Dared to be different and not everyone will like it…I like most of it.

This car belongs to a gentlemen named Steve in the UK. It is based on a Nova kit car, VW chassis and engine (obviously). It is the second incarnation of the car, the first being a little less radical. We invite you to check out our site for more photos at http://www.euro-nova.co.uk

Jul 31, 2008 at 5:05 am

The engine is backwards :D

Dean
Jul 31, 2008 at 4:50 am

My mom always said, “If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything”. *awkward silence*

Seriously though, the engine would be easy to work on. The car reminds me of the kit cars that you would see thrown on the Pontiac Fiero. Any one have an idea why there are 2 antennas? And I reverberate the earlier comments of erick, why the orange mirrors? I’ve heard of artistic license, but this might be a violation of artistry. I think that rear “bumper” and I use the term loosely is just so they had some place to mount the license plate.

To each their own.

Jul 31, 2008 at 3:37 am

Stop hating guys! Yes, it is different. If you don’t like something, you don’t have to buy it. Ask yourself. If this car was giving to you, would you take it?

Jul 30, 2008 at 11:52 pm

The rear shot is reminiscent of Alien.

The motor is breaking its way out of a Pontiac Fiero.

These guys should try to get this thing onto the next Speed Racer movie.

MIchael B
Jul 30, 2008 at 11:47 pm

Well I can Identify the base, It started as a Sterling Kit car. Originally it was VW based, with 70s style square headlights as well as square tail lights. THe rear originally covered the engine. the only thing that remains original is the lift up canopy area. very modified, I have to give them credit because either way that is a LOT OF WORK….
I applaud the effort

Dave
Jul 30, 2008 at 11:41 pm

This is Nova mid section from the 1970’s. Nice front and rear treatment with hint of F1 styling, someone got clever with their pencil, nice to see someone thinking outside the usual BOX.

I gotta agree about the vauxhall vx220 tail-lights,
http://www.flickr.com/photos/stoyan/1104020210/

I also agree with the Opel speedster taillights,
http://www.allsportauto.com/photoautre4/opel/speedster/2001_opel_speedster_01_m.jpg

they are the same car depending on what side of the road you drive on,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Speedster

those are definitely late 90s-early 00s mercury cougar headlights
http://www.fettarappa.ch/family/cars/cougar01.jpg

notice the indent in the bottom corner of the lights, and the same indent on the merc’ to follow the lines of the grill.

sometimes try to identify the lights used on motor-homes this is abut the same but cooler

GTwildfire
Jul 29, 2008 at 3:05 am

I think I wouldn’t mind driving this, but I’m not sure. It’s just too far out there for me to forge a difinitive “like it” or “don’t like it”. One thing’s for sure, it would catch EVERYONE’S attention everywhere it goes.
-
Oh, and I seriously doubt any of the body parts or lenses came from any production cars. The headlights definitely are not from a Cougar.
-
Y’know, the nose reminds me of the alien that plays the horn with that band in the cantina, in the original Star Wars, for some strange reason.
-
In fact, I think “alien” best describes this thing.

Well Obviously someone (Watchowski Bros) want to redo the Herbie franchise like they did Speed Racer…
Or obviously, Hotwheels pooped this thing out Mattel’s backside for a focus group test…
Actually, I’d drive it. It would sure turn heads…

maybe for all the wrong reasons…

Well, you can’t start something new without being different…

Jul 29, 2008 at 2:48 am

Interesting concept. It could use a better looking front end. Could use a little more ground clerance. Whats with the #53 on the front fender? Anyway, I appericiate all of the time and craftsmanship that went to making the fiberglass body.
