Audi A3 3.2 S vs. VW R32: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
Both cars have the same drivetrain, with the 250 hp 3.2 liter V6, AWD and DSG tranny. The R32 is a tad cheaper, lighter and faster, but the A3 gives you the upscale badge and two extra doors. So, which would you choose?

90% of these posts are retarded. Seriously, VW makes Audi? VW is the parent company to Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, Lamborgini, Bugatti. Audi, Seat, Skoda, and VW share engine design and switch gear but are manufactured in several different plants. For this thread VW in Wolfsburg and Audi in Ingolstadt. Different sheet metal and different workers. Have you been to the plants? I have. VW has more manual labor and Audi has more robots. Compare HP, Weight, and cost.
My choice would be which handled best on the track and had more available modifications. Such as can you apply the same Haldex mod to the A3 3.2 that you can The VW R32?

I love Audis but the cars are basically the same made by the same people. I’ve owned and Audi A4 and A6 and would have to choose the A3 to stick with the upscale VW’s. Love both cars though.

I would take the Audi because i personnally think Audi has a more respectable name vs. VW. Sure the R32 may be a little cheaper/lighter/faster. but the audi just seems to shine through all those details with it’s body styling, great engine, and quality fabrication. So Audi 4 sure, But im not hating on VW fans!

I would take The Audi simply b/c VW hesitates to offer that engine on a consistent basis. Audi always has the manual stick shift option AWD and that incredible gearbox all in one package. Audi could offer up more horsies though.

Well Like You Said Cheaper Lighter And Faster. Isn’t That What Everyone Wants? Besides, The R32 Has The Better Body.

Gotta say I’d take the R32 hands down. The A3 is nice and respectable, but the R32 has the Street Cred and is more thrilling drive experience overall. More of the proper package. If I want a sport wagon that can kick the crap out of a WRX or Lancer GTS, I’ll grab a Mzdaspeed 3.

I would take the R32 because of fuel economy and performance.
brady bushby:
The Golf is made by audi and actually it has an audi engine as both cars are from the VAG. the S3 is sold in 4 doors and a higher price because it aims for a different public so it wont hurt the R32 sales in the US

Love my “R”…there is something to be said for stealth. The Audi is mighty fine, but screams “look at me!” The R looks like every other bunny until you drop the hammer.

neither. I just want a transverse pedaled awd bicycle … the lack of balance and impossibilties. the babble to confuse marketing and idiots who fall for it. oh yes. I got it nailed down now. Anything but real is the goal… I’ll take both and a bulldozer…2dr hatchback is even crazier. The auto idiots almost done? I have had enough 15 years ago …

I worked on a large used car lot for some time, most of the stuff we dealt with were old lease vehicles. I’ve driven quite a few VW’s and was very impressed with each one of them. When I saw the new body style I had to scratch my head. Volkswagen still builds a great car, but they’ve created the automotive equivalent of a “butterface.” I have no doubt the R32 is a great car, but the looks just ruin the whole package for me. Just my opinion.
That and the Audi sedan is a bit more my speed.

I’m a huge A3 fan too – I’m not sure it will ever be practical enough or affordable enough for me to bite the bullet, but I sure wish it was. With the exception of some of the wheels they throw on it, it’s one of the most beautiful cars anywhere near my price range.

most would expect me to say the R32 since I have a GTI. But I absolutely love the A3, especially the interior. If the R32 had the bad ass seats that they showed with the concept, and if it had a bit more to it cosmetically, then I might go with it.
